Rationale;
13:15 Lingfield - Giselle @ 2/7
Only three are scheduled to start, and it's very hard to ignore the likely hot-pot from Ballydoyle, especially after the fruitful time enjoyed by the juggernaut operation at Chester this week.
Aidan and company field Giselle in this Listed Oaks trial and she's likely to be very hard to beat, under Ryan Moore, who else. A daughter of Frankel no less, she's entered up for the Betfred Oaks but at present there looks to be several ahead of her in the pecking order from her yard.
A big performance here could alter that, but neither of her two rivals even hold an entry for the big one at Epsom. She's G3-placed, and has a Curragh maiden win to her name too, putting a big field of 16 to the sword.
I won't be betting, but it should be a very interesting and informative watch.

13:35 Haydock - Lanesborough each-way (5 places) @ 10/1
The Swinton, traditionally a very warm handicap hurdle - and a lovely pot of £45k to the winner. Eight of the last 11 scorers have carried 10st-something, so in looking to find a selection in that category I'm very hopeful about the prospects of Lanesborough (10st 7lb).
The excellent Ben Pauling trains, and Ben Jones has the riding assignment. Six runs under rules so far for this six-year-old gelding, and his last was his best - an emphatic 5l victory at Warwick in February off a mark of 108 (his only win to date).
I'd like to think they hatched the plot to take this about an hour later, but even off his revised mark of 116 this upwardly-mobile youngster must have a bright chance providing the good ground is no hinderance - his sire Diamond Boy was very versatile surface-wise, so I'm hoping it won't be an issue.
I'm taking advantage of the five places each-way, and one thing's for sure - they won't be hanging around. Cracking renewal.

13:50 Lingfield - Fox Avatar @ 11/4
A competitive-looking 10f handicap, for older horses (4yo+).
Fox Avatar is from the Roger Varian yard, and the mighty Silvestre De Sousa will be on board the four-year-old Frankel gelding. Three runs last term included a Beverley novice win, and on seasonal reappearance last month was beaten just 1.5l at Chelmsford at this 10f trip, running on.
That should have put him spot-on for this, and I'm a great admirer of De Sousa, a former champion jockey lest we forget and a vastly-experienced one at that. He's outstanding, and has been for many years.

14:05 Ascot - Arisaig @ 2/1
A one-mile, Class 2 handicap for the fairer sex, and a raider from Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire.
The four-year-old Arisaig is by the prolific Harry Angel, very much a 6f superstar, but there's a brilliant stamina influence on the dam's side as she's by Galileo. The selection has four wins from 14 outings and has started the new season in fine heart. Two spins, close-up in both, and the feeling persists that her turn is once again close at hand.
At Goodwood a week ago she was beaten less than 2l in Listed company at this trip off 93 and appears now in this handicap, rated 94. Her Racing Post rating for that effort was a career-best 98, and she had anything but a clear path (not an uncommon issue of course at Goodwood).
With better luck in running and the fact that she should be absolutely spot-on for this I think she's got a fabulous chance of success for trainer Charlie Johnston, and jockey Callum Shepherd. Nap of the day material for me.

14:25 Lingfield - Vice President @ 4/1
Class 2 handicap for middle-distance older horses, only five go, but an intriguing little clash nevertheless.
My selection Vice President is trained by former top jockey Richard Hughes, who has booked the very firmly current top jock Ryan Moore. For sheer consistency he's to be admired hugely, and there seems no diminution whatsoever of his very considerable talents despite what's now a career extending beyond a quarter of a century . He's still only 41 after all - a mere youngster.
His mount is a four-year-old Galileo gelding who joined Richard from Ballydoyle in January, so Ryan has indeed ridden him once on the racecourse previously - a Leopardstown maiden success in July last year.
He made a satisfactory return in April at Newbury in a 2m (!) contest, beaten 5.25l, and steps back to just short of a mile-and-a-half this afternoon, which should be much more suitable. Might be a bit of value - certainly has ability.

14:40 Ascot - Gleneagle Bay each-way (5 places) @ 8/1
Big field over 7f, for a well-endowed handicap - wouldn't look out of place at the Royal meeting.
Gleneagle Bay has Hollie Doyle up top, for Irish trainer Stephen Thorne, and the five-year-old Gleneagles gelding arrives fresh from a fifth (beaten 6.5l) in the Irish Lincoln at the Curragh.
He's very consistent, was favourite last time with the superb Colin Keane booked, so we're talking about a serious animal here. He appears off 92, same as at the Curragh, and can make his presence felt. Let's play each-way and take advantage of the five places.

15:00 Lingfield - Puppet Master @ 5/4
It's the Derby Trial now - colts with Epsom aspirations, though none are particularly fancied in the Betfred Derby betting.
Puppet Master is by the yard's impressive Derby hero from 2012, Camelot, and Mr Moore is once again doing the steering. Aidan also saddles another, Stay True, ready winner of a Leopardstown maiden 31 days ago.
These two should dominate proceedings, and it's one I'll not be getting too brave about as the second string was so compelling last time his jockey Richard Kingscote will doubtless be itching to get on board. One to watch and savour for me.

15:15 Ascot - Ocean Of Dreams each-way (4 places) @ 11/1
Middle-distance Class 3 handicappers in another trappy but highly intriguing affair.
Ocean Of Dreams is a four-year-old Fastnet Rock gelding, with Hollie Doyle on top for trainer Archie Watson - a very potent combination. He shipped in from Aidan O'Brien's no less in January, and has had two runs for new connections - way back in Donny's Spring Mile, and a much more competitive effort at Pontefract 26 days ago when running on late, over 10f, beaten just over 7l.
Nothing I can see breeding-wise suggests he'll want this trip but last time out certainly strongly hinted at it and, fingers crossed, he'll enjoy it. Hollie is top-drawer and given the horse's pedigree in every aspect he's likely to start paying his way sooner rather than later. Each-way for me, nice price.

15:35 Lingfield - Cathedral @ 15/8
G3 fillies travel 7f, and I've plumped for the only three-year-old in the field, taking on five rivals one year her senior - Ralph Beckett's Cathedral.
The trainer handled gifted filly Bluestocking brilliantly last term, culminating in Arc success of course, and has a very promising Too Darn Hot youngster here that appears in the Amo Racing silks. She's still in the Betfred Oaks and connections evidently think a great deal of her.
Just two runs to date, last term - easy Lingfield maiden win, then an excellent second (beaten only half-a-length) in a Newmarket G3, won by an O'Brien raider (Merrily). She's getting a nice chunk of weight-for-age, at least 12lb, and will be very hard to beat if straight after 211 days away from the white heat of battle.
