Lucky 15 Tips: Long round trip can pay off for North Yorkshire sprinter

After a couple of breathless days at the Punchestown Festival let's have a break, a change of scenery, and get back into the flat racing groove; ahead of Newmarket's three-day Guineas Festival which kicks in on Friday.

The first two Betfred-sponsored Classics of the season are nearly upon us then - the 1000 and 2000 Guineas - but first let's motor down to Chelmsford, for Thursday's Lucky 15 tips. Lots of the game's top jocks are doing their thing in Essex on Thursday, and it's sure to be plenty of fun.

17:45 - Beauld As Brass @ 6/4

I saw this one, not the easiest of rides given a tendency to lose many lengths at the start, absolutely hose up at Lingfield in a similar contest under today's rider eight days ago; and though raised 5lb I can readily see the five-year-old gelding obliging once again.

Top amateur Simon Walker is much sought-after for these affairs, and once again he's doing the steering. In-form Epsom handler George Baker trains (29% strike-rate in the last 14 days), and it's the same 10f trip as last week.

Beauld As Brass doesn't appear to have any more on his plate than at Lingers, bar the penalty of course, and any repeat showing could well be more than sufficient.

18:15 - Altareq @ 9/4

Great to see the Shadwell silks in Guineas week - Nashwan, anyone? This beauty is a three-year-old Frankel colt out of a Lawman mare, lodged with the Gosdens at HQ.

Altareq has raced just once, at Newmarket, 15 days ago. Over a mile, he faded late under today's pilot Jim Crowley and gets a step up to 10f today. He's got no fancy entries just yet despite his breeding and connections, but it's not hard to envisage that form being left behind with a vengeance this evening.

Team Gosden are in good order too (26% strike-rate), and those famous colours could well be in the winner's circle once more.

19:15 - Lady With The Lamp @ 10/3

An Irish raider now, from Joseph O'Brien's County Kilkenny yard.

Listed three-year-old fillies go 6f for a handsome £45k pot, and Lady With The Lamp is second-best 'in' on official marks. We know she's trained on nicely too, courtesy of a career-best reappearance spin at Cork 25 days ago (tidy win) in another Listed heat at this trip.

The filly has an early-closing entry into the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, and it might just be a big season for this daughter of QEII winner King Of Change. She has plenty of all-weather expertise courtesy of Dundalk back home, has three wins from seven career starts all told, and for me will take all the beating on Thursday.

20:15 - Noble Consort @ 11/8

Trainer Julie Camacho makes the long trip down from North Yorkshire, and has booked the quite brilliant Tom Marquand to do the pushing.

Noble Consort is a four-year-old Too Darn Hot gelding, fresh from a comfortable win last time (27 days ago) at Southwell, same trip/grade. He's got a 6lb hike to overcome but that last spin was an emphatic career-best, and the 400 miles-plus round trip will seem like a jaunt to the corner shop if Tom (24% strike-rate) can work his magic in Essex.

Massive chance in my book.
