Macarthur vs Western Sydney Wanderers Prediction: Stajcic’s side to secure top-four finish

Macarthur's finals fate in the Australian A-League Men's was sealed last month, and the Bulls head into Saturday's game against Western Sydney Wanderers at Campbelltown Stadium (10:35, TNT Sports 7) in the strange position of being unable to finish higher or lower than their current standing of eighth.
The visitors, however, can still end up as runners-up to Premiership winners Auckland and book a place in next season’s AFC Champions League Elite competition, although they will need results to go their way earlier in the day. Below are my Macarthur vs Western Sydney Wanderers predictions, alongside all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Macarthur have a fully fit squad for their season finale, with Yiannni Nicolau and Saif-Eddine Khaoui both named in Mile Sterjovski's extended squad.
To my surprise, and I'm sure many Bulls supporters, towering centre-forward Harrison Sawyer started a sixth consecutive game on the bench last Friday, despite scoring in each of his three previous appearances, netting four times. He was introduced in the 54th minute of that 2-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory and made a big impact, unleashing three efforts at goal, and he will hope to earn a promotion to the starting XI on Saturday.
However, fellow striker Christopher Ikonomidis did score Macarthur's solitary goal in that game, so it will be interesting to see if he keeps his place or if Sawyer comes in for him. A third option is that they are paired in attack, which had the desired effect against Victory, as Ikonomidis scored within 15 minutes of Sawyer's arrival.
Matthew Jurman and Liam Rose, who came on at the start of the second half against Victory for Ivan Vujica and Frans Deli, respectively, could also come into Sterjovski's starting XI thoughts.
Macarthur vs Western Sydney Wanderers Stats
- WSW are on an 11-game unbeaten run (W7, D4)
- Macarthur have lost five ALM home games in 2024/25 (W2, D4, L5)
- WSW have received the most booking points in three of the last four H2Hs
Dylan Scicluna (knee) and Jeong Tae-wook (ankle) are still sidelined for Western Sydney Wanderers, who have dropped James Temelkovski from last weekend's extended squad and called up Dean Pelekanos and Joshua Laws.
Alen Stajcic's side beat Newcastle Jets 1-0 at McDonald Jones Stadium last Saturday, and the former Perth Glory boss could name an unchanged starting XI for this trip to Campbelltown.
However, Jarrod Carluccio and last week's match-winner, Zac Sapsford, who both came on at the start of the second half against the Jets, could begin Saturday's game.
Macarthur vs Western Sydney Wanderers Odds
Macarthur have taken just a point from their last two matches, drawing 2-2 away to Central Coast Mariners before losing to Victory last time out, and with little on the line for the Bulls, Saturday's hosts are 11/5 to win here, implying a 31.3% probability. The Wanderers, meanwhile, are unbeaten since January 26, winning 11 of their last 14 games (W11, D3), and they are 5/6, or a 54.5% chance, to triumph and make sure they at least secure a home final in the play-offs.
There hasn't been a draw in this fixture since April 2023, but you can back a stalemate at 3/1 on Saturday, while both teams to score, which has landed in the last six head-to-heads, is priced at 1/3.
Match Result & Both Teams to Score - Western Sydney Wanderers & Yes @ 7/4
Macarthur and the Wanderers have already played each other twice this season, with both meetings taking place this calendar year, and it was Stajcic's side who reigned supreme last time out, winning 2-1 at CommBank Stadium on February 16.
On New Year's Day, however, it was the Bulls who claimed all three points at CommBank in a 3-2 victory, although the hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 53rd minute, and Macarthur's two goalscorers that day, Jed Drew (x2) and Ariath Piol, have since moved on to pastures new. Another starter in attack, Valere Germain, also exited the club the following month, so it's a very different Bulls side that will line up at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday.
January was a difficult month for the Wanderers as they lost three of their first five games of the year, winning just once, but they ended January with a 1-0 win at Brisbane Roar, the start of an 11-game unbeaten run, which they are currently still on.
Saturday's visitors have everything to play for in Leumeah as they secure a top-two finish for the first time in nine years and seal a coveted return to the AFC Champions League Elite competition. They also need to make sure they are not overtaken by Melbourne Victory and thereby lose out on a home final.
Therefore, the motivation to win is all with WSW on Saturday, and coupled with their excellent form, that should be enough to see them claim maximum points against Macarthur.
However, I'm backing the hosts to get on the scoresheet, as they have done in their previous five games, the latest of which saw them lose at home. The Wanderers have only kept two clean sheets in their last seven matches, and will find it tough to keep out Sawyer, Ikonomidis & Co. for the entire 90-plus minutes.

Team With Most Booking Points - Western Sydney Wanderers @ 7/5
The Wanderers have received the most booking points in three of the last four head-to-heads, and it's the visitors who will be battling the hardest to achieve a positive result on Saturday, so they provide solid value in this market.
Macarthur have received exactly zero bookings in two of their last five games, and last week, they were shown one yellow compared to Victory's four, while the Wanderers and the Jets exchanged four evenly at McDonald Jones Stadium.
