Lucky 15 Tips: Four strong fancies for Monday’s racing

With the National Hunt season coming to an end over the weekend, flat racing takes centre stage on Monday and there are five meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland. Scotland kick us off with a gathering at Ayr, which is swiftly followed by Lingfield, while Windsor, Naas and Wolverhampton provide the evening entertainment.

Here we pick out four strong fancies across the day that could be worth combining into a Lucky 15, including a progressive four-year-old for Ger Lyons in the feature Listed race at Naas.

15:30 Ayr – Sea Regal @ 3/1

SEA REGAL made six starts for William Haggas and finished third behind subsequent 1000 Guineas winner Elmalka in a Southwell novice back in 2023.

She made no mistake when upped to 1m2f at Ripon next time, getting off the mark at odds of 5/6 despite being keen and showing signs of greenness. Second by a nose in a handicap over a mile at Sandown in August, she should be competitive off this mark.

Making her debut for David O’Meara in this Ayr contest, the four-year-old remains unexposed in handicap company and the return to 1m2f may well facilitate a return to winning ways.

18:40 Naas – My Mate Alfie @ 6/4

Ger Lyons’ MY MATE ALFIE had a busy but successful campaign last term and he looked particularly progressive towards the end of the season, winning a valuable 6f handicap off a mark of 107.

Following up when returning to Group 3 company at the Curragh after that, he got the better of Charles O’Brien’s Big Gossey who opposes once again. There should be more to come as a four-year-old and he can confirm the form.

He went on to win a Listed race at Naas after that and old rival Big Gossey could only manage third. It remains to be seen whether or not this 5f trip will suit, as he’s trying it for the first time at this track, but he could be well worth siding with.

19:00 Windsor – What’s She At @ 16/1

Archie Watson has been in very strong recent form and is operating at a strike-rate of 32 per cent in the last fortnight. WHAT’S SHE AT can add to his tally of eight winners in this time, as the best is yet to come from her in handicaps.

She bolted up in a 7f maiden at Redcar in July, powering on over the last furlong to pull three lengths clear of the runner-up and make herself look like a smart filly.

Her two starts in handicap company have been pretty underwhelming but the handicapper has responded accordingly and she goes markedly up in trip. A 19lb three-year-old allowance could make a big difference and a big run is anticipated.

20:20 Wolverhampton – Nazron @ 9/1

NAZRON was a consistent performer in maiden and novice company, getting off the mark in good style at the fifth time of asking. Several subsequent winners have come out of the race and he has since scored impressively in a Windsor handicap.

That success came by a comfortable margin of two-and-a-quarter-lengths but the handicapper perhaps overreacted with a 9lb rise. Slipping back down to a more reasonable mark now, he’s entitled to improve for his seasonal reappearance.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
