Football Bet of the Day: Mill’s wall to stand strong once more

Friday 18th April 2025, 5:24am

Luckily for us this week, we’ve got so much EFL action to look forward to on both Good Friday and Easter Monday. We’re going to focus on the Championship as the stat that is flying round at the moment is that every side has something to play for - either promotion or relegation at this stage of the season.

Blackburn Rovers and Millwall are both outsiders for the play-offs, with the Lions in fine form and quickly gaining ground on the top six. Below you can find my Football Bet of the Day as we try and pluck out a correct score.

Football Bet of the Day - Friday, April 18

  • Millwall to win 1-0 vs Blackburn @ 13/2

Odds correct at the time of publishing

Millwall have given themselves a real chance of finishing in the play-offs as we barrel into the last four games. They sit just three points behind Coventry City, who are the current holders of that precious sixth postiion, having won four of their last five games.

Alex Neil deserves a massive amount of credit for the work that he has done since joining the club just before the end of 2024, winning 11 of his 22 games in charge. It was a hit and miss start but in recent weeks they have been flying, with only Burnley and Leeds United picking up more points over the last six games.

They’ve won four of their last five matches and they’ve all followed a relatively similar pattern. Millwall don’t blow teams away but instead are winning by fine margins, with all four of those wins coming by one goal. The reason they deserve massive credit is because during that time they have beaten Sheffield United away and Middlesbrough at home, while they also took maximum points at the Den against Portsmouth and Stoke City.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Millwall have won four of their last five matches
  • Three of those wins have been by a 1-0 scoreline
  • Blackburn have failed to score in three of their last six outings

Interestingly, and coming onto our Football Bet of the Day, three of those four wins have come by a 1-0 scoreline. They’ve beaten Sheffield United and Boro by that scoreline in their last two outings and I don’t think that is a fluke by any means. They’ve got some of the finest defenders in the league and keeping Boro, the second most-creative team in the Championship according to the xG table, quiet takes some doing.

Femi Azeez and Camiel Neghli returned to the squad against Boro and will provide more attacking threat while Josh Coburn is also back available having missed the win over his parent club for eligibility reasons. Japhet Tanganga and Shaun Hutchinson’s absences have opened the door for Tristan Crama to play at centre-back, and he’s already earned the nickname the Southwark Saliba which just speaks of his quality.

Blackburn vs Millwall Odds

Blackburn are a good team to play right now despite the fact that they ground out a win over Luton Town last time out. Mathematically they can still make the play-offs but realistically it isn’t going to happen, while Valerien Ismael isn’t getting the same performance levels as John Eustace was earlier in the campaign.

There is frustration at the owners behind the scenes so the usual benefits of playing in front of your own fans aren’t there, while they have failed to score in three of their last six matches. I think Millwall to grind out another important win at 13/2 is a great selection for Friday, and it would certainly give them another boost as they look to make it five wins out of six and gatecrash the play-off picture.
