Nap of the day with owen mcmahon main 2

It's fair to say I enjoyed Thursday's winner! It's been a luckless few weeks, but my SP selection, who went off 1/1 having opened at 4/7, obliged in no uncertain terms at Clonmel.

Fingers crossed for more joy on Friday, as we go to Chelmsford for the Nap of the Day.

Patience is required on Friday, for my Nap of the Day runs in the last of 22 races - a 0-75 handicap over 1m2f at Chelmsford.

The selection? Richard Hughes' three-year-old NOTIMEFORCHITCHAT.

Bar his victory over a mile at Kempton last August, the son of Time Test endured a modest juvenile campaign and was gelded in mid-November before being put away for the winter, spending 147 days on the sidelines.

He reappeared on the all-weather at Kempton last month, in a nine-runner handicap off a reduced mark of 72, and won in good style under Finley Marsh.

I thought it was a professional performance, which suggests a healthy amount of maturing, both physically and mentally, during his break.

The early signs are the form is decent, too. The runner-up won his subsequent start off a couple pounds higher and is now rated 75 by the handicapper, while the third was on a hat-trick and the fourth sent off 11/8f after winning a maiden at the second attempt.

Notimeforchitchat was raised just three pounds for his victory, which I believe is very generous - especially considering the scope for improvement, as it was only the fifth start of his career and his first of the season after a gelding operation and lengthy layoff.

The step up in distance could also bring about more improvement. He's already a winner over a mile at two and he needed every yard of the seven-furlong trip at Kempton last time out, only just getting up in the final strides.

On top of all that, his in-form trainer (Hughes is operating at a 21% strike rate in the past fortnight) has booked Ryan Moore, no less, for the ride.

The rival I fear most is Richard Hannon's Cristo, but as far as I'm concerned nothing boasts better claims than Notimeforchitchat, who gets a confident vote.
