George riley super league trophy

Castleford Tigers' search for a rare Betfred Super League win takes them to the DIY Kitchens Stadium to face local rivals Wakefield Trinity for Rivals Round on Thursday (kick-off 20:00 BST, live on Sky Sports Action), with Trinity themselves looking for a strong response to defeat at St Helens last week.

The way Wakefield fought back at Saints will give Daryl Powell great hope for a win over his former employers, while the Tigers desperately need to find some kind of spark from somewhere at the wrong end of the table. My Wakefield Trinity vs Castleford Tigers prediction follow, complete with full team news and Betfred's latest match odds.

Wakefield Trinity vs Castleford Tigers Odds

Having bounced back to the Betfred Super League with a swaggering in their step, Wakefield are clear favourites for the West Yorkshire derby on Thursday. Betfred have them at 2/9 to get a first home win in five attempts in all competitions, while the Tigers are 7/2 to pick up a second victory of the season to go with the 22-14 round-four success over Salford Red Devils.

That makes the away win an implied 22.2% probability, while the draw in 80 minutes is a 20/1 shot.

Digging into the handicap markets, the standard two-way line gives Cas a 13.5-point start. Under those circumstances, Danny McGuire's side are 20/21 with Wakey 4/5.

Team News

Castleford have dipped into the loan market for reinforcements this week, bringing in two Frenchmen ahead of the derby.

Imposing forward Jordan Dezaria arrives from Catalans Dragons on a one-month loan having struggled for game time with the Dragons this year.

Also joining is fellow France international forward Hugo Salabia from Hull FC on a season-long loan. Both players go straight into head coach McGuire's initial squad. Fellow loan recruit Lee Kershaw is also named in the 21.

Wakefield are boosted by the return to the squad of forward Josh Griffin from a hamstring injury. His inclusion represents the one change to Powell's squad as Jayden Myers drops out. Centre Oliver Pratt will look to maintain his impressive early form after grabbing two tries in defeat at Saints last weekend.

Rugby League Odds

Wakefield by 13+ points @ 8/11

Wakefield look in good shape for a positive result that would end a run of 12 years without a home win over Castleford. Having mounted a spirited fightback from 20-0 down at Saints to dominate the second half last weekend, I have Trinity down to beat the Tigers at home in Super League for the first time since 2013.

Cas should be more competitive with their additions in the pack, but they are way off being the kind of team who can compete each week at this level.

The atmosphere will help Wakefield, it may even spark Cas too, with over 7000 tickets sold at the start of the week and another big Belle Vue crowd expected.

Trinity are actually coming into this game off back-to-back defeats - at Saints and also narrowly at home to Leigh Leopards in exiting the Challenge Cup. But I don't really feel their form has dipped too much since a run of three wins in four prior to that.

I feel like this will be a really good game for the home crowd who are craving a win over their bitter near rivals, and have Wakey down to do so by a few scores at 8/11 with an implied probability of 57.9%.

Oliver Pratt anytime tryscorer @ 6/5

Trinity have looked really strong out wide, as you would expect with England winger Tom Johnstone and the in-form Matty Russell. But it is another Wakefield wideman who has caught my eye in Oli Pratt.

Solid in defence and a good decision-maker in attack, Pratt is at ease either in the centres or on the wing. He was razor sharp last week at Saints and I like his odds this week to cross again over the 80 minutes in a home win.
