19:09 Tampa Bay Downs – Styner (7) @ SP
Everdoit (4) made it back to back victories when winning a similar event to this one here last month. The four year old got decent fractions to chase down. He scored by almost two lengths from Styner (7) with Frosty the Soldier (5) back in fourth. His trainer has hit form in the last few weeks. He is a very logical favourite.
Styner (7) has a chance of reversing the form with Everdoit (4) second time back after a long absence. He did well the way the race was run considering the runner he duelled with dropped away tamely. This race plots to be run slower early. He gets a massive rider switch to Pablo Morales who may be able to save a bit for the latter stages.
This is not a match race. Globes (1) and Lord Knows (2) filled the places in a slightly cheaper claimer at the end of last month. They ran a good speed figure for the level. The rail drawn runner had been away three months. The pair are worth considering. So too are in form runners King Ramos (3) and Kartano (6). The first named gets a class test after winning for half today's claiming price. Kartano (6) came within a neck of back to back victories. Seven pound claiming rider Sara Hess has got a real tune of the late runner.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
19:41 Tampa Bay Downs - Juan Colorado (2) @ SP
There is a nice mixture of solid form on this turf track and a couple of interesting new faces. Bingo's Grind (3) and Makoa (1) filled the places in a similar race to this one here last month. El Dollar (5) and Vino Couragio (6) finished well in arears. Bingo's Grind (3) and Makoa (1) are very closely matched with the rail drawn runner coming out on top in January. The pair are obvious players and should get pace to chase down.
A couple of the new faces are My Lucky Angel (4) and Wolf Beach (7). The first named makes the dirt to turf switch. He has faced better company since breaking his maiden in January. His trainer Gerry Bennett has a fine record when he runs a horse on the grass for the first time. Wolf Beach (7) is a known quantity on the surface. The Gulfstream shipper has been a fringe player in much deeper races downstate. It is interesting he is entered as his trainer has a player in Bingo's Grind (3).
Grey Shadow (9) took an age to break his maiden. When graduation day did come, he ran a decent speed figure in the process. He's hardly overmatched facing winners for the first time. Maybe Juan Colorado (2) is the play at the likely prices. He returned to form getting back on the turf being beaten three lengths in a better race than this one. On a line through the runner who beat Bingo's Grind (3) and Makoa (1) last time, he is at worst on par with them. He goes for a trainer who doesn't win a lot but that can only help his price.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:49 Tampa Bay Downs - Big Shoulders (8) @ SP
The most interesting runner here is the class plunging Big Shoulders (8). He has faced much tougher competition in three career starts at Gulfstream. He's regressed following a fine debut but connections sent him to the sidelines to regroup. Not only does he run for sale for the first time but meets a very modest group of locals. His new trainer has a fine record with the few runners she's had at this meet. The switch to the turf is interesting as some of his siblings won on the surface. He is the runner to fear.
The leader in the clubhouse is Spartacus's Dude (9). The late runner has been placed in back to back starts at today's level since returning to the turf. He did get fast fractions to chase down then and may do so again today. The worry is going for a successful trainer to one with a solitary victory from forty plus starters at this meet. She did get that win last month and regular rider Jose Ferrer is back in the saddle.
It may be biggish prices bar two runners here. Moneylove (4) finished behind Spartacus's Dude (9) last time but was part of a quick pace. He could run better if he's ridden a little more patiently. Gunner (5) has shown little in two starts so far. The booking of Samy Camacho is a hint of better to come. The class dropping El Rabano (3) was hung wide on his first start on turf last month.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:49 Tampa Bay Downs - Ray's Blue Wagon e/w (2) @ SP
Ray's Blue Wagon (2) may go well at big odds. He got behind and never showed on his career debut. That sprint on the dirt may have only been a dress rehearsal for a maiden claimer like this one. His dam was best going a mile or so on the turf. He gets a positive rider change and may be capable of leaving that run behind.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
