The Punters Guide crew took to a sunny Haydock Racecourse earlier in their week to discuss their fancies for the big race on Saturday (16:00).

Main Grand National Selections
Joel - Meetinginthewaters
“He was 7th in the National last year as a seven-year-old. Last year, he had a tough prep race in the Ultima at Cheltenham four weeks before. He’s now one year older, has been campaigned to protect his mark over hurdles and is only 1b higher than in 2024. He’s fit and experienced and I think this will be the one from Ireland that’s gambled.”

Frankie - Minella Cocooner
“Siding with horses who like conditions and who’ve had a crack at before probably aren’t the worst shout.”
“I like last year’s winner, but I also like Minella Cocooner, who won at Sandown last year on good ground. He’s been campaigned with the race in mind, and he stays and travels; Danny Mullins, a fantastic jockey, also has a good relationship with him. He ticks the boxes as a nice each-way bet, and you’d hope he’d be in the frame.”
Frankie also likes last year’s winner, I Am Maximus. He’s gone up 7lbs. Is that enough to stop him?
“He’s a very, very classy horse, in a handicap. Yes, he’s up 7lbs, but he might just do it again.”

Matt - Iroko
“He’s been clearly campaigned for this race. Both trainers have ridden the course in the Foxhunters’, so they know what it takes to jump around here. Jonjo O’Neill Jr. said he was frighteningly fit when we spoke to him earlier in the week on our Betfred YouTube channel.
Last year at Aintree, he was beaten behind Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinking which is good form and trained not too far from the course, so would be a popular winner!”
