Nap of the Day: Let me try and win you over…

With the Grand National meeting at Aintree just around the corner, I'm looking to get a confidence-boosting winner on the board - and it's to Gowran Park we go for Wednesday's Nap of the Day in search of exactly that.

Aidan O'Brien's debutants tend to improve plenty for their first run, which is exactly what I'm expecting from WIN ME OVER at Gowran Park on Wednesday.
The three-year-old daughter of Kingman is a full-sister to John Gosden's five-time Group 1 winner Palace Pier (rated 125) and a half-sibling to Charlie Appleby's useful Castle Way (110), so it's fair to say she's expected to be capable of better than she showed on her belated debut at the Curragh just over a fortnight ago.
It wasn't a terrible run by any means in County Kildare. She finished fourth, exactly six lengths off the pace, in a 20-runner maiden worth €11k and was beaten by all the right horses.
The well-backed winner, Bint Queen Kindly, is a possible for next month's Irish 1,000 Guineas while the runner-up Copacabana Sands gave a good account of herself in a Group 3 at Leopardstown just the other day, clocking a Racing Post Rating of 105. Murkala, who was third, already had a rating of 82 and three respectable runs under her belt.
With that experience behind her, the selection ought to put in a much-improved effort in this fillies' maiden over 1m1½f.
This longer trip promises to suit Win Me Over, who was outpaced as early as the three-furlong marker on debut. Ryan Moore was already animated in the saddle at that stage and his mount was doing all her best work at the line.
Unless Jessie Harrington's newcomer Bonnie Moon is well above average, which I deem unlikely, she has Nuit and Deressa to beat for Henry de Bromhead and Dermot Weld respectively.
The former holds an Irish Oaks entry, which warrants respect, but ultimately her form last season was nothing more than okay - and the latter is winless in four starts.
Crucially, they both lack a run so far this season. A fitness advantage in these maidens around this time of year is a massive advantage as far as I'm concerned, and hopefully it can prove decisive once again.
The selection has opened on the short side, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her drift a bit between now and race time, so I'd advise keeping a close eye on the market.
