Celebre d’Allen Grand National Odds 2025: Aintree specialist a long shot punt?

With no fewer than four scratches on Monday morning, the Grand National field saw several sets of trainer and connections disappointed, but two men who will be delighted are Philip Hobbs and Johnson White, who train veteran Celebre d’Allen.
The 13-year-old has made the cut and will be the oldest horse in the race. What are the Grand National Odds of Celebre d’Allen? Well, let’s take a look and review his recent form…

Until this past weekend, it looked as though Celebre d’Allen was set to run in the Topham on Ladies Day for the third year straight. An impressive fourth place last year was notable and it came on the back of winning a Class II on the Mildmay course back in 2023. This horse has certainly looked more than comfortable at Aintree but competing in the Grand National is going to be a tall order.
The training duo decided not to race him following victory over at Bangor in a Class II back in November. It was quite the risk as they were hopeful of making the Grand National field but didn’t want the handicapper to add any weight to his mark. That risk, though, eventually paid off with a spot at the starting line.
One thing clearly against Celebre d’Allen, however, is his age. The last time a 13-year-old was triumphant at the Aintree Grand National was over a century ago. 1923 was the year when Sergeant Murphy won by three lengths at the olde timey odds of 100/6.
Recent years have seen the race become more of a young horses' game, with no one older than nine having taken out victory in the past decade. This is probably why Celebre d’Allen is classed as one of the rank outsiders but I wouldn’t be shocked if there are a fair few bets on him in the hope that the old boy can perform one more time.
Recent form hasn’t actually been too bad. His only run this season was that Class II win over at Bangor and that was his only time on track since that fourth place in the 2024 edition of the Topham.
His owner is keen to have a Grand National horse and he has (just about) earned his spot in the field of 34. It would be fair to say his win chances are pretty remote but you just never know.
