Vanillier Grand National Odds 2025: Good mark gives a great chance

One of the top choices according to the betting market has been given a wonderful mark from the handicapper. Vanillier has been close before, but can this 10-year-old go one place further in the 2025 edition of the big race at Aintree?

We review Vanillier’s Grand National Odds along with taking a gander at his recent form…

Two years ago, Gavin Cromwell was oh so close to celebrating his first Grand National victory with this horse. Vanillier was second to Corach Rambler back in 2023 and hope sprung eternal that this grey was about to breakthrough into the upper echelons of jumpers.

A return to Aintree last term didn’t go so well, with the then nine-year-old asked to carry 6lbs more. Things didn’t go to plan but he did finish the race. If we are being honest though, since that runner-up spot two years back, it has been tough sledding, hence why we’ve seen the handicap mark slide somewhat.

Winning for the first time in four years back in November certainly caught the attention of many a fan, though. After some pretty lacklustre runs, there was talk that this horse was approaching his best and his trainer wasn’t dampening that notion. Vanillier would go out and thrash the field in a Cross Country at Punchestown, winning by 18 lengths with absolute ease.

This was his first time in blinkers and it clearly went well. The fact he was jumping with enthusiasm was very noteworthy and that extra gear that came out when his jockey asked him to go was something we’ve not seen from Vanillier in many a year.

Then at the Cheltenham Festival, there was a very respectable third in the Cross Country, which included the horse making a big mistake after the third that saw him go from the front to the back in one motion.

2025 has been a massive step forward and return to form for this 10-year-old, who has just about snuck into the field for the Grand National. Carrying only 10st 6lbs and coming on the back of his two best back-to-back performances in several years, there is every reason to really like Vanillier as a win contender in Saturday’s Grand National.
