Nick Rockett Grand National Odds 2025: Form horse gives Mullins big chance

One of a plethora of Willie Mullins horses who will take part in the 2025 edition of the Aintree Grand National is Nick Rockett. This Irish horse comes into Saturday’s race in fine form and should be one of the most interesting betting options at a decent price.

It is rare for a horse to come into this most famous of races having recorded back-to-back wins, but this eight-year-old has been looking every bit the part of a genuine Grand National contender over in Ireland.

Going off as the joint-favourite at 9/2 in the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park in January, plenty was expected and he did not disappoint. He was comfortable before making his move four out and leading with two to go. He never looked in any real trouble and showed plenty of stamina all the way to the line, showing an extra gear compared to Velvet Elvis, who was right there with him in the closing stages. That victory was at the highest weight in this race this century, so he showed plenty.

As an odds-on favourite in the Bobbyjo, he went stride-for-stride with the early betting favourite for the Grand National in Intense Raffles and beat him by three-quarters-of-a-length down the stretch. Once again, the jumping all looked fine and there were no panicky moments.

He would win that race carrying 11st exactly and the handicapper has certainly punished him for that victory, as he’ll be 8lbs heavier on Saturday. This is likely a large part of the reason for the pretty decent odds.

Both of those wins came on soft to heavy ground. The weather in the north west has been pretty dry in the past few weeks, so the going should be even better for the Grand National. There are plenty of reasons to think this is a genuine contender to be there or thereabouts as they come to the line. If you’ve pulled Nick Rockett out in your office pool, then you certainly could’ve done a lot worse.
