Royale Pagaille Grand National Odds 2025: Tough mark to overcome

One of the longer shots to reign supreme in the 2025 edition of the Aintree Grand National is Royale Pagaille. This French horse has shown some class in smaller fields but has struggled when it has come to the bigger races.

Let’s take a look at the Grand National Odds of Royale Pagaille as we go through his recent record in our horse profile for the big race…

Royale Pagaille is a veteran of big races but this will be his first time taking on the most famous race of them all. Four times trainer Venetia Williams has sent this horse out for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and the results haven’t been impressive but they have been rather consistent.

A fifth-place finish in 2022 was the highlight of the four runs, with the horse finishing sixth in 2021, 2023 and 2024. Eighteen lengths was the closest he came to the winner back in 2022 and this year, just three weeks ago, we saw him come home a full 41-and-a-half lengths behind the winner Inothewayurthinkin. There isn’t much here to think that this 11-year-old is all of a sudden going to be fighting it out at the pointy end of the race.

It summed up what has been a pretty abject 2025 so far. It opened at Haydock, where going off as the 5/2 second-favourite in the Peter Marsh Chase - a race he has won twice before - we saw him being pulled up five from home after a couple of poor jumps culminating in a bad mistake at the 13th fence, from where he drifted down the field until jockey Charlie Duetsch called time on his race.

Another outing at Haydock followed and this time he would finish 38 lengths behind the winner, Famous Bridge. It was obvious that the horse weakened coming towards home, and with the Grand National going a further six furlongs it is really tough to find any way to back this one without expecting some kind of miracle.

For those looking for positive news, this is a Class I winner - as recently as last November. Yet with the second-top weight and coming into the Aintree Festival in such poor form, even hoping for a place at big odds seems like a real long shot.
