Football Bet of the Day: Gabi may not stop Zaragoza’s poor form

We’ve got a whole host of international football coming our way on Monday, March 24, but for our Football Bet of the Day we aren’t going to pick out your usual England bet. Instead, I’ve taken a look over to Spain where there is some value to be had in the second tier as Real Zaragoza host Cordoba.
Football Bet of the Day - Monday, March 24
- Cordoba to beat Real Zaragoza @ 12/5
*odds correct at the time of writing
I can’t for the life of me work out why Real Zaragoza have been priced up as the 11/10 favourites to win this game on Monday night. The home side currently sit 18th in the table and haven’t managed a league win in their last seven outings.
A team that were contenders to get promoted to La Liga at one point last year have got drastically worse over the last 12 months and this run of form they are in shows no sign of ending, sending them closer and closer to the drop zone.
They are now on their third permanent manager of the season as Gabi has arrived to replace Miguel Angel Ramirez, after he took over from Victor Fernandez back in December. Now, 2025 may be going quickly, but it has still only been three months since Christmas so you can see the sticky situation that Zaragoza find themselves in.
They don’t want to be hovering near the relegation zone. Although Gabi - yep, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder who had so much success as a player with the Spanish giants - could turn out to be a fantastic manager, his experience is limited after a couple of years with Getafe B. I think he will look to put a long-term project in place to get them moving towards the top flight, but I can’t see him having an instant impact in his first game in charge.
Real Zaragoza vs Cordoba Stats
- Zaragoza are winless in seven
- They've conceded eight goals in their last two outings
- Cordoba are unbeaten in five
This is a squad that looks like it lacks quality all over the pitch, and a summer rebuild is needed if they are to achieve their ultimate goal of promotion. In the here and now, I wouldn’t have them as favourites against Cordoba, which is why I am siding with the away side for Monday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Remember that I said Zaragoza were winless in seven? Well they’ve lost their last two matches 4-1 and 4-2, with the home defeat against Eldense unforgivable. Meanwhile, Cordoba have found themselves on a good run, unbeaten in their last five outings and up to 10th in the table.
Zaragoza have amassed the third-fewest points at home in the division this term (16 from 15 games) so it’s not as though La Romareda is a fortress for them. Meanwhile, Cordoba have been decent enough on the road, gaining five away wins so far.
I’m backing them to make it six here, as Gabi faces a tough start to life as a first-team manager. Big odds available on this one, that are well worth taking advantage of.
