Southwell scaled

Just a trio of UK meetings make up the programme on Wednesday, with jumps action from Haydock and Huntingdon preceding the evening all-weather card from Southwell.

Below are my horse racing tips for Wednesday, March 19, including one for former course winner Early Release on his return to Southwell.

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, March 19

  • 15:35 Huntingdon - Victory Club @ 10/1
  • 16:25 Haydock - Duke Of Deception @ 5/2
  • 16:52 Southwell - Early Release @ 11/4

15:35 Huntingdon - Victory Club @ 10/1

Just five runners line up in the Arkle Finance Handicap Chase, with the majority needing to find their best form.

VICTORY CLUB is ceding chasing experience to his rivals but Harriet Dickin's runner could be worth chancing.

He was the winner of a point-to-point race for this handler at Badbury Rings in the spring of 2022 and it's likely worth taking a forgiving attitude to the form he has shown since going over hurdles.

The eight-year-old won a bumper at Southwell on his Rules bow for Dan Skelton in May 2022 and has had a couple of extended breaks since.

He ran with some promise here over hurdles last month in new headgear and sports a pair of first-time blinkers now going chasing. There could be improvement off this workable mark.

15:35 Huntingdon - Winner Victory Club

Odds correct at time of publishing.

16:25 Haydock - Duke Of Deception @ 5/2

Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero are still basking in the glory of a Cheltenham Festival winner via Jagwar and they could be set to sample more success now with DUKE OF DECEPTION in the Tim Molony Handicap Chase at Haydock.

He won this race last year off a mark of 112 and could be in a decent spot from 5lb higher.

The eight-year-old hasn't been a model of consistency this season - twice being pulled up in five starts over fences - but his most recent showing was a positive.

He was second-best at Warwick (3m5f, good) behind Northern Poet, the pair having pulled a good clear of the remainder.

This strong stayer runs off an unchanged mark now and can make it 2-2 at Haydock.

16:25 Haydock - Winner Duke Of Deception

Odds correct at time of publishing.

16:52 Southwell - Early Release @ 11/4

The opener at Southwell features the hat-trick seeking Until Dawn for trainer Alan Brown but he could be left floundering by the former course winner EARLY RELEASE for David Evans and Saffie Osborne.

The gelded son of Sergei Prokofiev scored over track and trip in December on his first start after joining this team from George Scott.

That was improved form on his fifth start, just his second in a handicap, and he has since finished third at Lingfield (5f) and Kempton (6f), beaten less than a length behind handicap newcomer Macedonian a fortnight ago.

He races from the same mark of 64 now and while he's going up in grade slightly, he has a light-weight to carry as a consequence and the return to Southwell could be a positive for him.

16:52 Southwell - Winner Early Release

Odds correct at time of publishing.
