20:57 Will Rogers Downs (Race 7) - Okie Love @ SP
Quite a few chances here but Maggie d'Cause (10) and Okie Love (9) may be the pair to concentrate on.
The first named hasn’t raced since December but her trainer has a good record with lay off runners. The last time this class dropper ran in a claimer, she won at Remington in November. Okie Love (9) may be a slightly bigger price so gets the vote on that score. She has been swimming in deeper waters at Oaklawn Park. She is back with the trainer who won back to back races with her late last year.
Da Candy Cane (7) and All Aflutter (8) went close in a slightly cheaper claimer over course and distance eight days ago. The pair add depth to this race along with Ms. Hillary (1). She rounded out 2024 with a victory at Remington in December.
Our Bet (4) is more realistically placed here after being overmatched in Arkansas.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:25 Turf Paradise (Race 4) - Sbagliato @ SP
Many chances here. The consistent Wodeton (1) has been placed in all his starts at this meet, scoring in January. Fleetridge (6) is another coming off consistent efforts, winning a similar race to this one last month. The pair have to be reckoned with but maybe something ridden a little more patiently will win this.
My two against the field are Sbagliato (4) and House of Lords (2) with preference for the first named. He won twice in Southern California late last year. A slow pace up front at Santa Anita didn’t suit.
It is interesting his trainer runs him here in a protected spot. Not so House of Lords (2) who has to run in to be claimed having won at this level before including in January. He drops in class after a fair effort when facing a deep field last month.
Birth of Cool (3) finished just ahead of Wodeton (1) the last time he raced on turf. Wellswort (8) has been in fine form in starters. Ted (7) hasn’t raced since May but goes for a dangerous trainer.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
21:54 Turf Paradise (Race 5) - Sahara Sue @ SP
Capital Heat (7) looks the gal to beat dropping in class. She was far from disgraced in a higher priced claimer last month. Prior to that, she won by three lengths at today’s level.
If her price holds up, she would be worth siding with. Maybe Sahara Sue (4) will have more price appeal. She had playable form in Northern California. There was plenty of promise when she ran third in a similar event to this on her local debut. If she can show the same speed, she may be in prime position just off the pacesetters.
Secret Mistress (1) and Mean Sharon (2) ran one-two for today’s price last month. The pair enter calculations along with Diamond Dee (5). She came off the pace to beat a field of two time career winners last time.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
