Wetherby scaled

There’s a little something for everyone across Britain’s three meetings on Tuesday, with two National Hunt fixtures and an all-weather card in the evening.

Amongst them is a six-race National Hunt meeting at Wetherby, where the going is officially described as good, good to soft in places and they race from 14:00-16:45 We’ve picked out three strong fancies to follow across the card and they include a lightly raced Nicky Henderson chaser who looks well set to get back on track here.

Wetherby Tips - Tuesday, March 18

14:30 - Bois Guillbert @ 5/4

BOIS GUILLBERT won three times in 11 starts over hurdles, most recently a Kelso handicap off a mark of 116 in that sphere. That cosy two-length success came at the expense of several subsequent winners, providing some substance to the form.

Lucinda Russell’s horses almost always improve substantially over fences and that appears to be the case here, as he ran out an impressive winner on his chasing debut at Newcastle last month and further progress seems likely.

Cheltenham Festival winner Patrick Wadge takes the ride once again and if the pair can get into a good rhythm this time around, we could see a similar result.

The handicapper has responded with a 7lb rise which looks about right and, provided the return to a longer trip doesn’t inconvenience the son of Ivanhowe, he could be worth keeping on side until his limitations are exposed.

15:35 - De Tellers Fortune @ 7/4

DE TELLERS FORTUNE made the perfect start to his chasing career when showing a good attitude to win at Taunton, trying 2m7f for the first time. Nicky Henderson’s gelding hit the line well and did all his best work late on.

You can put a line through his most recent run over 3m1f at Wincanton as the conditions were a little too soft for him that day and the good ground here should be much more to his liking.

Never travelling at any point during the race, he’s better than that form suggests.

A 1lb drop in the weights can only help his cause and a much better performance is anticipated here.

He remains very lightly raced, especially in handicap company and it’s likely that the best is yet to come.

16:10 - Skiffle Man @ 10/3

Dan Skelton’s SKIFFLE MAN showed very little in his first three starts over hurdles, being beaten by a combined total of 103 lengths but those efforts did have the desired effect of getting him a nice low handicap mark.

The switch to handicaps combined with a step up in trip made all the difference at Southwell last time out and he produced a much-improved display to finish second by half-a-length. Three lengths down at the last, he stayed on well and only just failed to get up.

It’s worth noting that the front two were comfortably clear of the rest and the race has produced several subsequent winners.

That would have been a good learning experience and you would imagine he’s likely to improve again here.

Going up in trip again here, he shaped as if three miles will suit last time and, even though the handicapper has whacked him with a 7lb rise, he looks well set to get off the mark sooner or later.
