Catalans dragons 2025

A pair of former Betfred Challenge Cup winners go head-to-head in round four on Saturday when the 2018 champions, Catalans Dragons, host three-time kings Featherstone Rovers at the Stade Gilbert Brutus (17:00 GMT, 18:00 local).

Rovers have never beaten the Dragons in five previous encounters, and they arrive in Perpignan with a new look about them after Paul Cooke recently succeeded James Ford as head coach. Here are my Catalans Dragons vs Featherstone Rovers predictions, alongside the latest team news and match odds from Betfred.

Catalans Dragons vs Featherstone Rovers Odds

Any Betfred Super League side hosting a Championship outfit will normally carry the bookies’ favouritism with them, and there’s no shock in seeing a prohibitive price against the Dragons’ name for Saturday’s encounter.

Steve McNamara’s side are a 1/50 shot for the win in 80 minutes, with a 25/1 price against the draw. Fev, for their part, are available at 12/1, which implies a 7.7% probability of an upset.

The handicap market is where you’ll get the value, with Rovers pegged to a 30.5-point start in the standard two-way betting. With that condition applied, Fev become a 5/6 chance with the home side 10/11.

Team News

Sam Tomkins is the big-name inclusion in the Catalans squad, with the former England captain in line to make his return after five weeks out with a hamstring injury suffered in the third-round win over Halifax Panthers.

That strain has kept the full-back out of the start of the Super League season, and after watching his side win just one of their first four games he will be desperate for action ahead of the league resumption next weekend.

Elsewhere, McNamara calls upon Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet, Jordan Dezaria and Cesar Rouge in place of Tommy Makinson, Franck Maria and Theo Fages.

But with the likes of Tomkins, Luke Keary, Arthur Mourgue, Elliott Whitehead and Tevita Pangai, it is a strong 21 for the ex-England coach to pick from.

Rugby League Odds

Cooke will make at least one change to the team beaten by Sheffield Eagles in round three of Betfred Championship action last Sunday.

Out goes experienced front-rower King Vuniyayawa, who was a tryscorer in the 19-12 reverse to the Eagles. Into the reckoning come Bailey O’Connor, Johnny Openshaw, Maddox Jeffrey and 33-game Super League veteran Connor Wynne.

Last week’s 18th player, Jack Arnold, is again among those available for selection.

Two-hay handicap: Catalans -30.5 @ 10/11

Catalans have the rare record of having been party to two scoreless first halves already this season.

They were tied 0-0 with Halifax in their previous Challenge Cup fixture, then last Saturday had just a Luke Keary drop-goal on the board as they went in 1-0 up against Leeds Rhinos in Super League.

It just so happens that those account for their only two wins so far too, with their 14-0 and 11-0 wins respectively showing they have what it takes to scrap out keenly-fought contests.

But as much as I’d love to see them being pushed all the way once more by Rovers, I just don’t think that’s going to happen. While the visitors’ change in the coaching box was needed, I reckon it would take far more than a different voice to make them competitive against the Dragons.

McNamara’s troops haven’t begun this season particularly well by any means, but there is a real step up in class from Championship level to Super League competition. And on home soil Catalans are generally a really tough prospect.

That means I find the two-way handicap to be on the skinny side, with the Dragons desperate for a performance to really lay down a marker following a stodgy start to the season.

And with a trip to the Castleford Tigers ahead next Saturday, they’ll be looking to head to the Jungle with confidence in their ability to pick defences apart having so far failed to cross for more than two tries in any game in 2025 and averaged only nine points per match.
