PSG vs Liverpool Prediction: Les Parisiens to make life tough for the Reds

Paris Saint-Germain are a club who are desperate to claim their first Uefa Champions League title. They welcome Liverpool to Parc des Princes on Wednesday (20:00, TNT Sports 1) for the first leg of their round of 16 tie. Les Parisiens got here via the knockout round, in which they thrashed domestic rivals Brest 10-0 on aggregate.
Liverpool topped the league phase with 21 points, losing just one of their eight matches in the competition to date. The Reds are in the driving seat in the Premier League title race, and they will fancy themselves to venture far in this competition too. Read on for my PSG vs Liverpool predictions, aided by the latest team news and match odds.
PSG vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Odds correct at the time of publishing
PSG have won three of their five home games in Europe this season and they are 11/8 to take the advantage in this first leg.
One of their fixtures at Parc des Princes ended in a stalemate. A draw can be backed at 11/4, which has an implied probability of 26.7%. In addition, Liverpool have drawn two of their last three away trips in the Premier League coming into this clash.
The Reds are 15/8 to win on Wednesday, which they managed in three of their four away contests during the league phase.
Over 3.5 goals was a successful bet in three of PSG's last four outings in the Champions League, as well as Liverpool's latest appearance in the competition against PSV Eindhoven. This is priced at 5/4 (44.4%) for Wednesday.
Les Parisiens attacker Ousmane Dembele has netted six goals in Europe so far and he is 7/5 to strike anytime on Wednesday.
Team News
Luis Enrique will be delighted to have all of his squad available for Wednesday's contest against Liverpool. Les Parisiens have been an outstanding attacking force across all competitions this term, and with all that offensive talent, they can cause plenty of problems for the Reds.
PSG made changes Saturday's 4-1 triumph over Lille in Ligue 1, so the likes of Vitinha, Willian Pacho and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia restored to the starting lineup. Kvaratskhelia was a rumoured target for Liverpool in the winter transfer window, so they will be hoping that it doesn't come back to bite them in this Champions League tie.
Marquinhos is set for his 100th start in this competition on Wednesday, which would make him the first Brazilian to do so exclusively for a French club. The defender would join Dani Alves, Thiago Silva and Roberto Carlos in reaching this milestone.
Dembele, who has bagged 26 goals in all competitions this campaign, is set to lead the attack, while Bradley Barcola should complete the attacking trident for the hosts.
Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez (both hamstring) and Tyler Morton (shoulder) are the only Liverpool players sidelined at the moment, but respectfully, none of them would have been expected to start in Paris. Amara Nallo is unavailable due to suspension, having been sent off into his debut at PSV in January.
Arne Slot has all of his key personnel available, so the visitors are also set to name a strong XI on Wednesday.
Ibrahima Konate should partner Virgil van Dijk in defence, while Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo are likely to make up the front three.
Draw and both teams to score @ 3/1
Liverpool have been very good this season, better than many thought they would be in the immediate aftermath of Jurgen Klopp's fruitful reign. Much of their success so far has been down to the incredible Salah, who is on course for a record-breaking season in the Premier League for goal contributions.
The thing is, PSG have also been brilliant this campaign. While they are always expected to win Ligue 1 year-on-year, they have been putting up some incredible numbers. Les Parisiens have scored 66 goals in 24 league matches, with a further 24 coming in their 10 Champions League appearances.
On paper, this is is arguably the tie of the round, although Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will want to have a word. Both sets of attackers have been mesmerising this term and we could be treated to a spectacle across these two legs.
The onus will be on the hosts to take control as they are the home team to begin with. Liverpool have had a few wobbles on their travels in recent weeks, and PSG will look to capitalise on that.
However, these are the kinds of games in which Liverpool's stars rise to the occasion, and I think they can do enough to take a draw back to Anfield for the second leg on Tuesday.
I've boosted the odds with both teams to score because that was a successful bet in four of PSG's eight games in the league phase, while Liverpool experienced this in three of their own.

Alexis Mac Allister to receive a card @ 23/10
Yes, it's deja vu again as we are going for Alexis Mac Allister to go into the book. It feels like Liverpool's midfielder must have the record for the amount of times a player has been tipped to receive a yellow card by the Betfred Insights team this season.
I have done it quite a few times but it's simply because of the way he handles himself out on the pitch. The Argentine is physical in the challenge and there are many occasions in which he mistimes his tackles.
Mac Allister has been booked on four occasions already in the Champions League this term, while committing just eight fouls. This means he is averaging a yellow card for every two offences in Europe.
I think he will be a busy man in Paris given the speed of PSG's attacking stars, and unfortunately I believe we will see him collect another booking.
