RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg Prediction: Hosts to avenge November humiliation

RB Leipzig welcome VfL Wolfsburg back to Red Bull Arena on Wednesday (19:45, Premier Sports 2) in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal. The visitors handed Die Roten Bullen their heaviest home defeat of the season in the Bundesliga back in November, so the hosts will be out for revenge.
The two teams have been in similar form of late in the top flight, having both drawn several of their matches in the build-up to this last-eight contest. Read on for my RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg predictions, supported by the latest match odds and team news.
RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg Betting Tips
RB Leipzig's last two wins in the DFB-Pokal came on home soil. They are also unbeaten here in their last six matches in all competitions. They are 21/20 (which has an implied probability of 48.8%) to win this tie in 90 minutes.
Two of their past three home encounters ended in a stalemate and the draw can be backed at 13/5.
Wolfsburg are 12/5 to prevail in regulation time, having triumphed in their last away match at VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
Over 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in seven of RB Leipzig's previous eight home contests across all competitions and it is priced at 8/11 (57.9%) to strike on Wednesday.
Team News
Leipzig boss Marco Rose is without the services of Benjamin Henrichs (Achilles tendon), Forzan Assan Ouedraogo (hamstring), Xaver Schlager and Antonio Nusa, with the latter two both out of action with knee injuries.
Christoph Baumgartner was forced off in the 2-2 draw with Heidenheim in the league on Sunday and is a slight doubt to feature against Wolfsburg.
With his appearances having come exclusively in the DFB-Pokal so far this season, we can expect Maarten Vandevoordt to return in between the sticks for the home side.
Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda are set to lead the line for Die Roten Bullen, having netted 27 goals between them in all competitions this campaign. Behind them should be a four-man midfield, which might include Amadou Haidara if Baumgartner is not deemed fit to play.
Wolfsburg boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is dealing with injuries of his own. Niklas Klinger, Rogerio, Kamil Grabara (hamstring), Maximilian Arnold, Kevin Paredes, Bartosz Bialek, Lukas Nmecha and Lovro Majer are all in the treatment room and unavailable for the visitors.
In Grabara's absence, Marius Muller is expected to continue in goal. Mattias Svanberg and Aster Vranckx could be Wolfsburg's midfield offering with Arnold sidelined.
At the top end of the pitch, Hasenhuttl might decide to stick with the pairing of Jonas Wind and Mohamed El Amine Amoura.
RB Leipzig to win (in 90 mins) @ 21/20
RB Leipzig have been a strong force on home turf domestically this campaign. Their only defeat at Red Bull Arena in the Bundesliga came at the hands of Wolfsburg, who thrashed them 5-1 at the end of November.
It was a tough lesson but it seems to have had an impact, as Rose's men have lost just one of their last nine matches here in all competitions since that day. Leipzig will be hungry for revenge and what better way to gain it than in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals.
Wolfsburg's triumph here a few months ago appears nothing more than an anomaly from a domestic standpoint, and the rest of the season shows that Leipzig have been a strong outfit at Red Bull Arena.
The two teams have both experienced more draws than they would like of late but I think the revenge aspect should give RB Leipzig the edge here, as they will be fuelled to inflict misery upon Die Wolfe.
With a place in the final four on the line, I'm expecting Leipzig's attackers stand up and deliver, so big displays could be in the offing for the likes of Sesko and Openda.

Both teams to score @ 8/13
I may fancy Leipzig to gain their revenge, but Wolfsburg can certainly make their victory difficult. With how the last meeting unfolded, the hosts may be a little nervy in the opening stages, which could lead to Die Wolfe starting on the front foot.
For my second selection, I have opted for both teams to score. This is because it was a winning selection in Wolfsburg's 5-1 victory here back in November, but also i in the visitors' past two outings in the Bundesliga, one of which came away from home.
BTTS has appeared frequently at Red Bull Arena, too, in recent months, with six of the previous eight clashes here across all competitions ending with both teams getting on the scoresheet. I believe we could be in for an entertaining evening in Saxony as a result.
