Us racing tips 2 1

Our very own US Horse Racing tipster Paul Quigley shares three selections for the Stateside action on Monday - two from Oaklawn Park and one from Turf Paradise.

US Horse Racing Tips - Monday, February 24

  • 19:05 Oaklawn Park (Race 2) - War Music @ SP
  • 19:37 Oaklawn Park (Race 3) - Expensive Cut @ SP
  • 22:21 Turf Paradise (Race 6) - Above The Fold @ SP

19:05 Oaklawn Park (Race 2) - War Music @ SP

She's Storming (6) had a few of these behind her when posting a 20/1 upset in a similar race to this one three weeks ago. On face value, the double up is a decent possibility. She did do everything right at the start which is not always the case with her.

Chai Tea (1) and Lady Astrid (7) finished behind her last time. Both were coming off long layoffs so may improve. Chai Tea has a chance off her form at Prairie Meadows. Likewise, Lady Astrid from Canterbury. She would be a welcome winner for a jockey and trainer.

There are a few class-droppers in here worth considering. She Be Sheehan (10) didn’t run too badly on her return in a higher priced claimer. She has early speed in a race without too much zip.

Maybe use her in the forecast with WAR MUSIC (9). She has been thrashed in both starts at this meet but in much better company. Now facing a softer field, she may come back to life.

Like the selection, Magnolia Mae (5) gets significant class relief and was likely ring rusty on her comeback.

19:05 Oaklawn Park (Race 2) - Winner War Music

Odds correct at time of publishing.

19:37 Oaklawn Park (Race 3) - Expensive Cut @ SP

Trainer David Jacobson is double-handed here. Both are ridden by jockeys who have had success for him at this meet, so there doesn’t appear to be a first-string based on that.

His Gasoline (3) didn’t build on a promising local debut second time here. Like his stablemate Sittin On Go (8), he has form in better races but has a long layoff to defy. He won back-to-back starters at Aqueduct and Keeneland last spring before tackling tougher fields. He’s aggressively spotted for his comeback. Jacobson’s record with long-term returnees is pretty good. He’s the runner to fear on the big class drop.

EXPENSIVE CUT (7) is another who lacks a recent start. He was running in better races than this one in Kentucky last year. His workouts for his first start since November are pretty encouraging. He has a good attack post. Jockey Rafael Bejarano has ridden him before. He may come out running and could be worth siding with.

Polterer (2) was in decent form until a below-par effort when starting slowly last time. Forgive him that run and he is a big player. Like him, Right Tone (5) has no fitness worries. He’s earned place money in his last two starts, finishing just behind Polterer in December.

19:37 Oaklawn Park (Race 3) - Winner Expensive Cut

Odds correct at time of publishing.

22:21 Turf Paradise (Race 6) - Above The Fold @ SP

Over half this field ran in a race at this level here a fortnight ago. The late-running Infinite Love (4) fared best, placing second. She’s really upped her game lately since switching to the turf. The six-year-old should get pace to chase down again. Her record suggests she probably needs a perfect set up not to come up short again.

Sky Sailing (6) and ABOVE THE FOLD (7) have little to find with Infinite Love from that last race. There are reasons for thinking either could reverse the form.

Sky Sailing was a short-priced favourite after a big win on dirt prior to that. She duelled on the front end in between two pacey rivals. That may have softened her up. She is a big player but may be a shortish price again going for a dangerous trainer.

The selection did get a nice stalking trip early on but lost some momentum when forced to switch around the final turn. Alex Cruz now takes the ride. She may be able to build on what was her first try on the turf. Maybe a win bet on her and a saver forecast with Sky Sailing is the way to play this race.

Charley Paints (2) gets a class test after an upset victory at the level below this one. That run is not far off the best of these. Tia Suzi (8) is in sharp form sprinting on the dirt. She is interesting on the surface and distance switch.

22:21 Turf Paradise (Race 6) - Winner Above The Fold

Odds correct at time of publishing.
