Sunderland will be licking their wounds having been dealt a seismic blow to their automatic promotion hopes on Monday night. Leeds United stole all three points at the death as Pascal Struijik rose highest to head home the winner in the 95th minute, but now the Black Cats must refocus as they host Hull City on Saturday (12:30, Sky Sports Football).

They are now eight points off the top two, so further slip-ups must be kept to a minimum moving forward. Below you can find my Sunderland vs Hull predictions featuring team news and more.

Sunderland vs Hull Betting Tips

  • Sunderland to win @ 4/6
  • Bet Builder: Wilson Isidor and Enzo Le Fee to score @ 9/1

Team News

There’s good news from a Sunderland perspective as Romaine Mundle is back available for selection. The winger has been a big miss and has been kept waiting by Regis Le Bris for his return. Having said that, he is likely to start on the bench here, with his match fitness still not at 100 per cent. Tom Watson remains out, Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns is also set to be out for the next month and Ahmed Abdullahi is on his slow return from groin surgery.

Wilson Isidor, Enzo Le Fee and Jobe Bellingham are all fit and set to start, as Le Bris has a settled starting XI to work with. Despite defeat against Leeds, he shouldn’t need to tinker with it too much.

Brazilian playmaker Lincoln joined Hull on loan from Fenerbahce and he is expected to make his debut here, but Kasey Palmer remains out until next month. Charlie Hughes could make his welcome return to the defence having been out since December while Fin Burns is also back in contention to get some minutes for Ruben Selles’ side.

Matt Crooks scored again against Norwich last time out and is expected to start again here in the number 10 role while Mason Burstow could come into the side if Selles decides to shake things up at the top end of the pitch.

Sunderland vs Hull Odds

Sunderland are the favourites to win this game at 4/6, which gives them an implied win probability of 60%. That feels fair given Sunderland are yet to lose a league match at the Stadium of Light this season, while Hull are priced at 9/2 having won five of their 15 away matches to date.

A draw is available at 11/4, while over 2.5 goals can be backed at 1/1 and has come in during 16 of Sunderland’s 33 fixtures so far, while BTTS is the same price. Looking at the goalscorer market, Wilson Isidor is the favourite to open the scoring at 9/2.

Sunderland to win @ 4/6

Easy. I’m backing Sunderland to win this game pretty comfortably and I do think there is a massive gap between the top four in the division and the rest of the league. Hull have improved under Selles and he is a manager I really rate at this level, but Sunderland are just too good.

The likes of Bellingham and Chris Rigg in particular will be sold for upwards of £30m apiece either this summer or next, while there’s a real argument to be made than Le Fee is now the finest player in the second tier. They have a lot going for them and are well in this promotion race, while they are a force to be reckoned with even if they end up in the play-offs. I think we are fairly safe backing them to win another home game, and keep their unbeaten record at the Stadium of Light intact.

Bet Builder: Wilson Isidor and Enzo Le Fee to score @ 9/1

I think we can get good odds on putting together a small Bet Builder here. I’ll back both Isidor and Le Fee to find the net in what I’m expecting to be a dominant Sunderland display. Isidor needs no introduction, and he’s done a fantastic job since joining from Zenit last summer.

He showed all his qualities as he fired in the opener at Elland Road and he’s now got 12 league goals to his name this season. He should have some fun against this leaky Hull defence, while I’ll also back Le Fee to find the net. If Mundle gets some minutes, I can see Le Fee working his magic in the central area of the pitch, and finding the net at some stage. He’s just too good, and I believe the goals will begin to flow.
