Friday football in the Australia A-League Men's comes from McDonald Jones Stadium this week (08:35, TNT Sports 1) as Newcastle Jets (11th) host stragglers Brisbane Roar (13th). The Jets have won back-to-back games, following up a 3-0 triumph at home to Melbourne Victory with a 2-1 success at Adelaide United last Saturday.

The Roar, meanwhile, have won just once all season, and arrive into this contest undercooked with their last contest, a 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix, more than two weeks ago. Read on for my Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Dane Ingham, Jacob Dowse, Aleksandar Susnjar and Oscar Fryer all remain unavailable for Newcastle Jets, who have named 20-year-olds Justin Vidic and Garang Arou in their extended squad for Friday's match.

Philip Cancar was taken off in the 42nd minute of the Jets' win against Melbourne Victory on February 8 and missed last weekend's game in Adelaide, but the 23-year-old is back involved for the visit of Brisbane Roar.

However, Cancar might find it difficult to reclaim his spot in the starting XI given mid-season signing Kota Mizunuma, who replaced him against Victory and started against Adelaide, has registered an assist in his last three matches.

Football Odds

Kumasi-born attacker Asumah Abubakar, formerly a Portugal U19 international, made a deadline-day switch from Swiss side Grasshoppers and is in line to make his Brisbane Roar debut on Friday. The 27-year-old trained with his new teammates for the first time this week and joins fellow new arrivals Nathan Amanatidis and Austin Ludwik, who made their Brisbane bows against the Nix on February 6.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side will be without Lucas Herrington and Quinn MacNicol again with the youngsters away on international duty with the Young Socceroos at the U20 Asian Cup in China.

Experienced defenders Corey Brown (unspecified) and Ben Warland (knee) will also miss Friday’s trip to McDonald Jones Stadium through injury.

Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar Odds

Newcastle Jets are looking for their third win in a row and odds of 1/1 suggest a 50% chance of success on Friday, while Brisbane Roar are 21/10, or a 32.3% chance, to triumph for just the second time this season.

The draw is priced at 5/2, both teams to score at 1/2, and over 2.5 total goals at 8/15.

Jets striker Lachlan Rose has scored in his last three appearances and is 7/5 to make it four on the trot, making him the favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, with Rafael Struick (2/1) first up for the visitors.

Player to Score Two or More Goals - Lachlan Rose (NEW) @ 17/2

Rose came up clutch in my last Newcastle Jets preview, netting an 11/5 winner by scoring anytime against Victory.

Naturally, given he has scored twice since that price was marketed, and the Jets face a side lagging 22 points behind Victory, we're faced with lower odds on Friday, with Rose down to 7/5 to fire anytime.

That's a price still worth considering, in my opinion, but I'm going with a bolder selection for my first tip and backing Rose to net a couple against the Roar.

An injury kept the off-season signing out of ALM action until round seven on December 7, and his second league appearance for the club didn't arrive until exactly a month later when he got off the mark for the Jets, coming off the bench to score the only goal of the game against the Roar at Suncorp Stadium (0-1).

Rose has scored a further four goals since, firing in five of his last seven outings, and he goes in search of a fourth consecutive game with a goal on Friday.

One thing the 25-year-old is yet to do, however, is bag a brace for the Jets.

He might fancy his chances of doing so this week, though, given the travails of the Roar this season.

Brisbane have won just one of their 15 ALM games in 2024/25, losing 11 times, and only Perth Glory (41) have conceded more goals than the Roar's tally of 32.

They've only been breached once in four of their last five matches but did ship three to Sydney in a 4-3 win at the Sky Blues' Allianz Stadium on January 18 and have been the victim of two braces this term, conceding twice to Melbourne City's Yonatan Cohen in a 4-1 defeat in December and twice to Western Sydney Wanderers' Brandon Borrello in a 2-2 draw later in the month.

Rose is in the form of his life and with the Jets scoring at least two goals in their last four games, the Australian forward will fancy his chances of bumping his season tally up to seven on Friday.

Match Result - Newcastle Jets @ 1/1

Newcastle Jets are looking for their third win in a row and will be confident of achieving it against a Brisbane Roar side who have lost 11 of their 15 ALM matches this season. A win for the Roar at Sydney was impressive and a draw at the Nix means they are now unbeaten in their last two travel games, but the Jets are on a roll, drawing two and winning two of their last four contests, and will be confident of doing the double over their opponents.

The Jets have won the last three head-to-heads including the last one at McDonald Jones Stadium, beating the Queensland club 3-1 there in January 2024.

It was a slow start to the season for Rob Stanton's side but eight points from their last four matches have them seven points outside the top six with a game in hand on sixth-place Sydney, so a late run for the play-offs isn't out of the question.

They will need to win this weekend, though, to stand a solid chance of making the finals, and with the momentum they have built up over the last month, I think they will have too much for a poor Roar outfit that has blanked in five of their last eight outings.
