Lucky 15 Tips: Billy at the double? Every chance

Friday's action includes a seven-race card at Newcastle on the Tapeta, which is where I'm going for our Lucky 15 tips. January is nearly done, and as I don't much care for winter and its dark, dank blanket I'm delighted how quickly we're heading towards lighter and warmer pastures. Fun starts at 13:28.

13:28 - Rosco Rogers @ 7/4

We're kicking off with a firm favourite of the column - jockey Billy Loughnane. He's 19 in March I believe, already a go-to favourite wherever there's racing, irrespective of surface, distance, class - he's top-drawer.

For this opener he's on board Rosco Rogers, who ran well over a couple of furlongs further at Kempton 16 days ago and is turned out again pretty quickly to hopefully secure a first victory after just five starts; the last three of which have been for current trainer Tim Vaughan.

The three-year-old Ribchester gelding travels from the Vale of Glamorgan having gone mightily close the last twice, off 58 and 60, and any repeat (again off 60) will make him very difficult to beat. He gets Billy up top for the first time and I think his chance is undeniable.

13:58 - Letmeseethecolts @ 6/5

Brian Ellison trains this four-year-old Ulysses filly, who won nicely at Southwell over slightly shorter 17 days ago.

She's only gone up 2lb for that fairly ready success and it was a career-best effort. Jockey Ben Robinson retains the ride and Letmeseethecolts can record a second victory in what will be her 10th race.

She ran perfectly well here in December and for me has improved for her two runs since.

15:28 - Muscika @ 9/2

North Yorkshire maestro David O'Meara now, and a proper legendary veteran.

Muscika is an 11-year-old gelding by the speedy Kyllachy and will very possibly look to bolt out of the traps and make all, as per his win here 20 days ago. Drawn five in a small field jockey Ben Robinson (could be a big night for him) can perhaps make for the near-rail and repel all boarders?

He's won 17 all told, owes no-one a farthing, and of course is a wonderful credit to connections. He's only up a pound from the last day and looks sure to give a bold sight up front.

15:58 - Target Man @ 2/1

Really powerful connections here - owner Amo Racing, trainer George Boughey, and that man again Billy Loughnane in the plate.

George and 'The Kid' have struck up a tremendous partnership over the last few seasons and this three-year-old has run very highly-creditable races without quite getting his head in front. Yet.

Target Man is officially rated 80 in this maiden and that's usually good enough to take plenty of these. That edge in experience that he enjoys over the entire field can stand him in good stead, as can stepping up to 7f from the sprint trips he's tried so far in his fairly embryonic five-race career to date.

His Group-winning sire got 7f on heavy ground so there are reserves of stamina - plus he's out of a mare by 10f champion Declaration Of War. This trip angle, top jock booked, and decent performances so far can propel him into the winners' circle tonight.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
