Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

The Nap of the Day on Friday takes us to Lingfield, where a Dan Skelton-trained novice looks to have been found a good opportunity to gain a first win over hurdles.

I'm not surprised Drayton Flyer has opened favourite (5/4) for this two-mile maiden hurdle, but I expected him to be closer to DISCO DAVIS (2/1) at the same time.

The former brings potential to the table on the back of an encouraging second in a Wetherby bumper over Christmas, but that form looks nothing special and he's yet to jump an obstacle in public. I wouldn't say his profile is that appealing either.

Dan Skelton's gelding, on the other hand, boasts plenty of experience, with six starts under rules - including three over jumps - to his name.

His form on the level was average and he fell late on during his first couple of runs over hurdles, but finished a respectable fifth of 13 in a warm novice at Exeter early last month.

The six-year-old son of Doctor Dino was only five and a half lengths behind the winner Kap Vert (rated 120) and even closer to Jurancon (127), Mythical Moon (121) and In Limbo (115), so it's fair to say his mark of 115 looks very fair.

He sets the standard in this field of eight and Harry Skelton returning to the saddle is undoubtedly a further positive.

Disco Davis looked at home on soft ground the last day, so conditions won't be a problem, and despite my previous comments about his experience he remains unexposed, as we've only ever seen him complete once in this sphere.

Aside from the aforementioned Drayton Flyer, it's fellow debutants Elforleather and Blue Bellamy who rate the main dangers.

As a four-year-old, the former receives nearly a stone from the selection, but he was only rated 63 on the Flat and I tend to feel Alan King's novices need their first run - while the latter needs to take a decent step forward on his bumper form.

This looks a fine opportunity for the selection to get off the mark and he rates a solid bet to do so at 2/1.
