Atalanta vs juventus predictions betting tips serie a tuesday january 14 2024

Serie A title challengers Atalanta will look to cut the five-point gap on leaders Napoli to two on Tuesday (19:45) when they host an unbeaten Juventus at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. The visitors are yet to taste defeat in the competition but too many draws have proved costly as they sit nine points behind La Dea heading into the game in midweek.

Below is my Atalanta vs Juventus prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Atalanta vs Juventus Betting Tips

  • Player to Receive a Card - Sead Kolasinac (ATA) @ 4/1
  • Bet Builder - Double Chance (Atalanta or Draw), Each Team Over 9.5 Booking Points, Ederson (ATA) 1+ Shots, Kenan Yildiz (JUV) 1+ Shots on Target @ 4/1

Team News

Atalanta defender Berat Djimsiti was forced off in the first half of his side's goalless draw at Udinese on Saturday and looks set to miss out on Tuesday's game. Isak Hien replaced the Albanian in the 24th minute at Bluenergy Stadium and is an obvious candidate to take his place in the starting XI.

Former Juventus star Juan Cuadrado is also doubtful after missing La Dea's last two matches with a thigh injury, while Gianluca Scamacca has yet to make his return from the ACL injury that has kept him out all season.

There could be better news in the attacking department, though, with Mateo Retegui, who hasn't featured since lasting just 21 minutes of a 3-2 win over Empoli on December 22, back in training and eyeing a return to the matchday squad.

Football Odds

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta will serve a touchline ban on Tuesday after being sent off in the Turin derby against Torino on Saturday. Dusan Vlahovic and Francisco Conceicao both missed that 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino but could be available for selection in Bergamo.

Meanwhile, Manuel Locatelli is back from suspension and set to reclaim his starting spot in place of Douglas Luiz.

Arkadiusz Milik, Juan Cabal and Bremer remain in the treatment room for I Bianconeri.

Atalanta vs Juventus Odds

Atalanta have been installed as 11/10 favourites on Tuesday, giving Gian Piero Gasperini's side an implied win probability of 47.6%, while Juventus are 13/5, or a 27.8% chance, to inflict a first Gewiss Stadium league defeat on La Dea since September 24.

Four of the last five head-to-heads between these clubs in Serie A have ended in a stalemate, so the 21/10 price for a draw could be of interest.

Player to Receive a Card - Sead Kolasinac (ATA) @ 4/1

Atalanta defender Sead Kolasinac received four yellow cards in 30 Serie A appearances last season but has already matched that total in 13 outings this term, picking up his latest on Saturday against Udinese. The 31-year-old's foul-committed numbers (1.6 per game) are high, so the fact he is averaging a caution every 3.25 games shouldn't be a surprise.

On Tuesday, the Bosnia & Herzegovina international, who operates on the left of a back three, could be up against a couple of tricky opponents in Kenan Yildiz and Nicolas Gonzalez who have been fouled, on average, 1.6 and 1.5 times per Serie A game respectively this season. Yildiz has generally been deployed on the left-hand side of Juve's attack but started from the right on Saturday and scored a brilliant left-footed goal, so he could feature from that position again in Bergamo, while Gonzalez has been playing as a false nine to cover the absence of Vlahovic but naturally drifts out to the right where he can cut in and shoot on his favoured left foot.

Yildiz and Gonzalez are both likely to be buzzing around Kolasinac on Tuesday and that could spell danger for the former Arsenal man who had to take alternative action to contain the talents of another tricky attacker, Roma's Paulo Dybala, in a 2-0 victory over I Giallorossi on December 2 when he made four fouls - three on the Argentine - and was eventually booked later in the match for an unfair challenge on Dybala's compatriot and replacement, Matias Soule.

Bet Builder - Double Chance (Atalanta or Draw), Each Team Over 9.5 Booking Points, Ederson (ATA) 1+ Shots, Kenan Yildiz (JUV) 1+ Shots on Target @ 4/1

Atalanta may be winless in their last three games, drawing away to Lazio (1-1) and Udinese (0-0) either side of a 2-0 Supercoppa Italiana semi-final defeat to Inter Milan in Riyadh, but La Dea are unbeaten in their last 14 Serie A contests, last losing at home to Como in September. They've won their last six league matches at the Gewiss since by an aggregate of 20-6 so they will be confident of, at the very least, avoiding defeat to Juventus who are also winless in their last three games in all competitions, drawing their last two in the Italian top flight (2-2 v Fiorentina, 1-1 v Torino).

Stalemates have been the story of Juve's season as they have drawn 12 of their 19 league games, winning the other seven, but still sit fifth at the time of writing. The Old Lady have drawn five of their last six away games in all competitions and I struggle to make a case for them to win on Tuesday, so backing the hosts on the double chance seems the smart move for the first leg of this Bet Builder.

Next, I'm backing over 9.5 booking points for each team, which has landed in 20 of the previous 21 competitive meetings between the pair. Remember, with Betfred, a yellow card amounts to 10 booking points, so all we need here is for Atalanta and Juve to each pick up a caution.

The last two legs of this Bet Builder revolve around shots. First, I'm plumping for an Ederson shot as the Atalanta midfielder is averaging one per game in Serie A this season and has recorded one in his last four league games as well as in La Dea's Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Inter on January 2. The Brazilian also shot four times in the corresponding fixture last season and once in the reverse fixture in Turin.

Finally, I'm advocating a Yildiz shot on target as the Juventus winger has registered at least one in four of his last five matches, scoring in back-to-back games against AC Milan and Torino. He managed two shots on target against I Rossoneri and three against Monza earlier in that run and is averaging 0.6 shots on target per game in Serie A this season.

The Turkey international is a man in form and he is who Juve will look to as they try to unlock the Atalanta defence on Tuesday.
