Everton vs Peterborough United Prediction: Toffees can expose porous Posh

Everton have not lifted major silverware since Paul Rideout's header secured a shock 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the 1995 FA Cup final, but they will be aiming to maintain hopes of an end to their trophy drought by defeating League 1 Peterborough in Thursday's FA Cup third-round tie at Goodison Park.
Read on for my Everton vs Peterborough United prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.
Everton vs Peterborough United Betting Tips
The Toffees have gone through some tough times in recent years and they are languishing 16th in the Premier League after losing their last two fixtures.
However, they are five-times winners of the FA Cup and have reached the competition's quarter-finals twice in the last four seasons.
Peterborough are delighted to have reached this stage and secured a money-spinning tie away to Premier League opposition.
They are having a tough time in League 1 and slipped to 19th place after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Wrexham.
Team News
Everton's Armando Broja (foot) and Jesper Lindstrom (knock) were forced off during Saturday's 1-0 loss at Bournemouth and have joined Youssef Chermiti (thigh), Seamus Coleman (calf), James Garner (back) and Tim Iroegbunam (ankle) on the injured list. Dwight McNeil (knee) hasn't played for over a month.
Peterborough are without long-term absentees Kwame Poku (hamstring) and Rio Adebisi (knee), while Sam Curtis has recently returned to his parent club, Sheffield United.
Everton vs Peterborough United Odds
Everton are 3/10 to win without the need of extra-time or penalties and 1/8 to progress. Peterborough are 15/2 to triumph within normal time and 9/2 to reach the fourth round.
A fairly high-scoring game is expected, with over 2.5 goals quoted at 4/9 and under 2.5 goals priced at 13/8.
Everton win to nil @ 5/4
Everton are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League, but they should enjoy themselves and advance to the fourth round at the expense of Peterborough, who have the worst defensive record (46 goals conceded) in League 1.
Sean Dyche's side have failed to create much in Saturday's 1-0 reverse at Bournemouth, but their direct style should cause plenty of problems for Posh, who have not kept a League 1 clean sheet in any of 24 matches this season.
Peterborough have been decent in attack, scoring 41 third-tier goals, but they blanked in Saturday's 1-0 loss at Wrexham and may struggle to score on Merseyside.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score the first goal @ 7/2
One of Peterborough's biggest problems has been their issues with defending crosses into the penalty area.
They have conceded 14 goals from set-pieces - the highest of any team in League 1 - and their vulnerability to aerial attacks is a major concern against Everton, who tend to focus a lot on corner and free-kick situations.
Everton centre-backs James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite will pose a threat, but the bigger danger could come from centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who will be keen to get his season back on track.
Calvert-Lewin won the last of his 11 England caps in 2021, but he should fancy his chances against a leaky third-tier defence and looks overpriced at 4/1 to bag the opening goal.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
