Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

The decidedly inclement weather scuppered our ITV piece on Saturday with both meetings being called off, but very happy to report that the Lucky 15 element from Southwell provided winners at 7/1, 6/4, and a close call too with a 7/2 shot beaten by a head. A small profit was secured, in any event.

There are precious few alternatives to choose from regarding Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips - but it's very happily to Wolverhampton's late-afternoon/early-evening all-weather meeting we go; the only surviving fixture! Nine races, kicking off at 16:30. 'Fine wine' Hayley Turner is present (for just one booked ride, intriguingly - an outsider, Sid's Annie, in the opener), and there's some excellent racing. Enjoy!

Lucky 15 Betting Tips - Tuesday, January 7

Wolverhampton

  • 17:00 - Northern Cracksman @ 7/2
  • 18:00 - Bankrupt @ 3/1
  • 18:30 - Back Tomorrow @ 5/1
  • 19:00 - Tiger Crusade @ 9/4

Today's Horse Races

17:00 - Northern Cracksman @ 7/2

A four-year-old Cracksman gelding, in the hands of North Yorkshire trainer Lawrence Mullaney.

Northern Cracksman ran in a similar heat over half-a-furlong shorter 18 days ago at Southwell, and was decidedly unlucky in the run. After 13 career spins, win number one is still to be achieved but off this kind of mark (52) he's gone close on several occasions and with any normal luck in running has the ability to win this for me.

Claimer Brandon Wilkie takes off a handy 3lb.

18:00 - Bankrupt @ 3/1

Big chance for this one in my book - my nap of the night.

Bankrupt comes out pretty favourably with his rivals in this Classified Stakes contest, and has won here at Dunstall Park before. The six-year-old gelding journeys from Suffolk for trainer Chelsea Banham, and regular pilot Joey Haynes is in the plate.

After a freshening-up break of some 57 days he ran here just before Xmas and was beaten less than a length by one who's gone on to follow-up at Southwell under a penalty.

Bankrupt is up just a pound for that cracking effort (50), but won off a mark of 64 just over 12 months ago.

18:30 - Back Tomorrow @ 5/1

A five-year-old mare now, raiding from the Scottish borders no less - and the yard of Ewan Whillans.

Back Tomorrow is another who put her feet up for a wee bit (62 days) before running here just over a week ago, coming a very close-up fourth in a blanket finish.

She ran on very well when all was lost, and the Racing Post race reader described the performance as 'eye-catching.' This is another Classified Stakes race and though she's not the best treated on official marks, that last run shows me that this is a lady who's primed and ready to strike.

Let's make it the joint-best, on the napping front, and I'm loving the fact that connections are returning so soon.

19:00 - Tiger Crusade @ 9/4

A trusted occasional partnership that often bears fruit - trainer Dave Simcock and Arc-winning jockey Luke Morris.

Tiger Crusade is a good old class-dropper tonight. After many recent spins in Class 2 and 3 company the eight-year-old No Nay Never gelding appears here in a Class 4, 20 days after finishing third beaten less than a length in a £13k contest at Kempton.

Little fish are just as sweet so they say, but this £4,972 may not quite be as tempting; however, what a chance he's surely got, on that last performance. It's 18 months since he last appeared in the winners' enclosure but ran very well here off a mark of 88 in August for a £39k pot (beaten just 2.5l).

Tonight's 82 looks eminently workable.

Easy to fancy him as much as the previous two, frankly - so we'll have co-naps of three!

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £380 for your total £7.50 stake.
