Nap of the day generic

There are three scheduled meetings across Britain on Monday, with a mix of jumps and all-weather action.

The afternoon jumps racing is from Ludlow and Ayr, though both venues must survive raceday inspections amid the current cold snap, before they go on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton with a busy eight-race evening card. Our Nap of the Day is in good heart after a Christmas success at Southwell and is still very well treated on the all-weather in relation to his best form on turf.

Plenty of in-form contenders are set to line up in the 7f handicap that is the fifth race on a busy Monday evening at Wolverhampton.

They include Mesaafi, set to carry top-weight on first start for new trainer Simon Pearce. He was placed on his last three starts for Charlie Fellowes on the all-weather, at Kempton in August and then over 7f/6f at this venue in September and October.

The four-year-old returns from a short absence having changed yards but races from an unchanged mark and will have to hit the ground running to shed the maiden tag now.

Havana Force won last month for Marco Botti in good style over course and distance here at Dunstall Park.

He was held up off the pace and came through to collect after a couple of the pacesetters floundered. That race worked out ideally for him, but he's rated 7lb higher this time and will need another personal best to collect what would be his second all-weather success.

FOOLS RUSH IN is more experienced and has a better strike-rate on synthetics (21 per cent) than he does on turf (13 per cent).

He likes to be prominent and hadn't quite been finishing his races off over further in recent times but a drop to this trip at Southwell over Christmas saw him recording an all-the-way win.

That was the ninth win of his career and his third on the all-weather. His peak success came at Chester in July 2022 off a mark of 95 on the turf.

He's only gone up to a revised figure of 68 in this sphere for that Southwell win and could still be very well treated as such. He's got an ideal draw in stall two to go forward and have a strong say on matters on the pace.

He has won here over further but this could be an ideal set-up in his current mood.
