Girona vs Real Valladolid Prediction: Blanquivermells to bounce back with a win

Neither Girona nor Real Valladolid will be happy with their starts to the 2024/25 La Liga season, so both teams will be desperate to end the year on a high when they meet on Friday (20:00, La Liga TV/Premier Sports Player) before La Liga pauses for three weeks, save a rearranged game between Valencia and Real Madrid on January 3.

Team News
Ladislav Krejci is back from suspension from Girona but after picking up three consecutive yellow cards, taking his season tally to five in 12 La Liga appearances, Oriel Romeu will serve a one-game ban on Friday.
Viktor Tsygankov and Bojan Miovski are still in the treatment room for Michel's side, while Yangel Herrera faces a late fitness test after missing Girona's last seven games following an issue suffered on international duty with Venezuela last month.
Real Valladolid are without suspended duo Juanmi Latasa and Kike Perez, while Selim Amallah misses out due to an injury.
Mamadou Sylla could be back fit again, however, and Eray Comert is back from a ban.

Match Result & Both Teams to Score - Girona & Yes @ 11/5
Girona have only won six of their first 17 league games this season and are without a victory in any competition since November 23, failing to triumph in any of their last six matches in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, or Uefa Champions League.
However, their opponents on Friday, Valladolid, have won half (three) the amount of the Blanquivermells, and all three victories have come against sides currently ranked 17th (Alaves), 18th (Espanyol) and 20th (Valencia).
Diego Cocca's charges have lost seven of their eight away contests on their return to the Spanish top flight while, before home defeats to Real Madrid (0-3) and Liverpool (0-1), Girona had won three on the bounce at the Montilivi, beating Slovan Bratislava 2-0 in Europe before overcoming Leganes (4-3) and Espanyol (4-1) in La Liga.
Girona have won four games on home soil in La Liga this season and the last three have seen both teams score, while goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has kept just two clean sheets in eight league matches at the Montilivi in 2024/25.
Valladolid have only scored six times on their travels this term but one of those strikes came in their last away trip to Las Palmas (2-1) on December 7 while they've also scored in defeats at Leganes, Sevilla (2-1) and Celta Vigo (3-1), so even in defeat they can hurt their hosts.
Girona were on the receiving end of a 2-1 scoreline last time out in La Liga as they lost to Mallorca but I can see them reversing the situation this time around. I'm not totally confident over a scoreline here, however, so backing Michel's men to win and both teams to score looks like a sensible selection at 11/5.

Anytime Goalscorer - Yaser Asprilla (GIR) @ 21/10
Girona attacking midfielder Yaser Asprilla has only scored once for the club since joining in a £19.8m deal from Watford in the summer, and that was back on October 6 when he opened the scoring in a 2-1 win over Athletic Club. In fairness, the 21-year-old has missed several games through injury and has only started in six of his nine La Liga appearances to date.
Since returning from an issue that kept him out of Girona's first two matches this month, though, Asprilla has made himself a fixture in the side, playing the duration of La Liga defeats to Real Madrid and Mallorca as well as his team's Champions League loss to Liverpool. His importance can be summarised by the fact every other 'attacker', save for full-back Miguel Gutierrez playing a more advanced role against Liverpool and Real Madrid, was taken off in all three games.
Asprilla hasn't been able to add to his solitary strike for the club but it's not been for the want of trying as he unleashed five efforts against Real Madrid, forcing Thibaut Courtois into two saves before testing another of the world's greatest goalkeepers, Alisson Becker, with his only shot against the Premier League leaders. He also shot twice against Real Mallorca last time out and is averaging 1.7 shots per game in the Spanish top flight.
The Colombia international showed his eye for goal last season, scoring six times in 44 Championship appearances for Watford, while he struck his second international goal earlier this year in a 3-2 friendly win over Romania.
Sooner or later, Asprilla will start striking gold, so cash in while you still can.
