Lucky 15 Tips: Old firm of Appleby and Buick look to get rolling again

I've already gone to Sunbury-on-Thames for today's nap, and I'm happy to weigh the other eight first-class heats as ideal material for our Lucky 15 tips on Wednesday, December 11.

The action starts in earnest at 16:10 and plenty of huge names in the sport are present - Ryan, Murphy, Crowley, Buick - where do I sign up?

16:10 - Sweet Couture @ 9/2

Two-year-old Dandy Man filly trained by George Boughey and ridden by Oisin Murphy, fresh from his huge Group 1 triumph the other day in Hong Kong.

Sweet Couture lines up for start number three, with just average displays to note thus far. Last time 22 days ago at Lingfield she was beaten 3l in one of these novice stakes races, seeing out the mile trip well.

Re-opposing is the horse finishing around 2l better that day, Nanny Park, but she was rather backpedalling at the finish and I'm hopeful that the experience gained at the trip, plus a bit of Murphy magic, can reverse the placings and allow Sweet Couture to get her head in front and  break her maiden.

16:40 - Invincible Duke @ 10/3

More youngsters on show, as two-year-olds stretch out once again in this one-mile novice stakes open to all, unlike the filles-only first heat.

Invincible Duke has yet to see a racecourse, in common in fairness with many of his rivals today. What alerts me to his obvious prospects are breeding (by Invincible Spirit out of a Dylan Thomas mare); the fact that he's trained by the brilliant Ralph Beckett; and that man with whom Beckett has enjoyed so much glorious success this term, jockey Rossa Ryan.

With so little to go on of course it's a speculative choice, but there's plenty to commend the colt.

17:10 - Wild Nature @ 13/8

A very decent two-year-old nursery handicap now, and the old firm of Appleby and Buick are looking to score.

That's extremely possible in my view, with their promising Kingman offspring Wild Nature. Given that the gelding operation was administered before he'd seen a racecourse, he must have been something of a handful before the unkindest cut but is putting together in his five-race career so far some very consistent and useful displays.

Three weeks ago here off 2lb lower he met trouble in the run and only went down by just over a length, so he can be marked up a bit for that. Any repeat, with less interruption and potentially a bit of improvement, can see him do the business today.

19:40 - Sheradann @ 4/1

At this extreme 2m trip here three weeks ago Duke Of Oxford beat Sheradann by a neck, with the winner just about grimly holding on. That was after a 67-day break against a race-fit rival, and I'm very hopeful that jockey Richard Kingscote, on board then too, can exact revenge on Wednesday evening.

He's a pound better off, which I guess over 2m is neither here nor there but every little helps. The four-year-old Roaring Lion gelding is trained by Ian Williams, so adept with these flat stayers, and races in the famous pink and green of Mrs Fitri Hay. Fabulous contest.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
