Bristol sit joint top of the Premiership table alongside Bath but need to improve their home form, and Leinster will provide a real test in the Champions Cup at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

The Bears have won their last nine away games but have been less accurate on their own patch, losing to Saracens and Gloucester in the league.

Beaten Champions Cup finalists for the third straight year last season, Leinster have reloaded with the arrivals of two-time Rugby World Cup-winning South African lock RG Snyman and 67-cap All Blacks centre Jordie Barrett.

Their depth is such that both will start on the bench on Sunday alongside a host of other returning internationals.

Bristol's try-scoring power means they can make their mark against the Dubliners but it is tough to envisage the four-time champions not making a winning start. Read on for my Bristol vs Leinster predictions.

Team News

England duo Ellis Genge and Harry Randall return at loosehead and scrum-half for Bristol, while hooker Harry Thacker comes in as the only other change from the win at Harlequins.

Number eight Viliame Mata will make his first European appearance for the club after joining from Edinburgh in the summer.

Jack Conan will captain Leinster from number eight, with Caelan Doris among the replacements alongside Snyman and Barrett, who should make his debut appearance for the province.

Robbie Henshaw and Garry Ringrose are selected ahead of Barrett in the centres while Ciaran Frawley is at full-back, with Sam Pendergast favoured at fly-half and Ross Byrne on the bench.

Bristol vs Leinster Match Odds

Leinster are 2/9 to open their European campaign with an away win, while Bristol are 7/2 to cause an upset in the pair's first-ever meeting.

The draw is 20/1 and a 10-point handicap has been set in the 3-way, with Leinster -10 at 20/21.

Bristol +10 @ 1/1

After the rain and wind of Saturday, more gusts are expected on Sunday and that may mean a tighter-than-expected game.

That should narrow the perceived gulf in class and Bristol's form will give them confidence that they can go out hard and test Leinster.

The Dubliners began their last European campaign with a victory at La Rochelle, having lost to the same opponents in both the 2022 and 2023 finals.

They will be out to prove themselves again after going down to Toulouse in last season's final and the quality they can call on from the bench means it is hard to look past the away victory.

There is limited value in the price, though, making it worth siding with Pat Lam's side to keep it close, with their status as the top points-scoring side in the Premiership showing how dangerous they are with ball-in-hand.

They also play to the death and can be backed to give Leinster a real test, albeit in a losing cause, by being within 10 points by full-time.
