Manchester City's title hopes are on the line when they visit Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday (16:00).

With an eight-point gap between the two sides, City can ill-afford a repeat of their recent struggles. However, after another slip in midweek, it seems like this is less of a poor run for the Citizens, more deep-seated issues which require January additions to repair.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Stats

  • Liverpool have won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions
  • Manchester City have lost five of their last six games

Form Guide

Liverpool are not only runaway Premier League leaders, they've also picked up 16 points across their last six league games - five more than any other side.

The Reds have won 14 of their last 15 games across all competitions, while Arne Slot has led his side to nine wins from 10 home games. Of those matches, seven have been won by two goals or more.

Manchester City have lost five of their previous six in all competitions after blowing a 3-0 lead over Feyenoord in midweek. They've been beaten in four consecutive away trips, while they've slipped into the middle of the league form table after three straight defeats.

Head-to-head

Recent meetings between these two have been fairly even, with their two Premier League clashes in 2023/24 both finishing 1-1. Across their last six encounters, both sides have also won twice.

The concern for City boss Pep Guardiola is that he has never fared well at Anfield, even when his side were in their pomp. The Citizens have won once in nine visits, with their only victory coming in a behind-closed-doors encounter in early 2021.

Outside of that, City have lost five and drawn three of their games at Anfield under Guardiola's watch.

Goals

Liverpool are the only side to have conceded fewer than 10 goals in the Premier League this season, while they're one of only seven teams to have managed that feat across Europe's big five leagues.

The Reds' eight goals against means they are slightly overperforming their Expected Goals Against count, which stands at 10.6. They went into the weekend as the second-highest scoring side in the Premier League, with their tally of 24 just three goals shy of Tottenham.

Manchester City have conceded an incredible 17 goals across their last six games. They have managed to score in five of those matches, but they look so vulnerable to opposition counter-attacks.

Cards & Fouls

Don't expect a flurry of yellows and reds this weekend, as these two sides are among the most disciplined in the division. Just two teams - Everton and Brentford - went into the weekend having picked up fewer cards.

City also rank as one of the lowest fouling sides on average, while the last five meetings between the pair have averaged just over three bookings per game.

Corners

Both sides have averaged slightly above 11 corners in their respective home and away games in the league this season.

The Reds have conceded six corners per home game, compared to just 5.17 corners won on average. Meanwhile, Manchester City are dominant in that department, averaging 8.67 corners per away trip and conceding only 2.67.
