Cameron Vuong vs Gavin Gwynne Predictions: Youth meets experience in lightweight war

Hot prospect Cameron Vuong takes on decorated veteran Gavin Gwynne this Saturday, November 30 at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. The lightweight contest will take place on the undercard of Sunny Edwards vs Galal Yafai. DAZN will screen the event live on their platform.
Here are my Vuong vs Gwynne predictions ahead of a fascinating youth vs experience match-up.
Vuong vs Gwynne Betting Tips
- Vuong by knockout @ 11/4
Vuong calls himself ‘The One’ and he might be the only one who could take a fight like this in his seventh pro outing at the age of 22. Gwynne has been there and done it on a level most fighters can only dream about. But Vuong is highly-rated and confident so Matchroom are betting big on the Northumberland man.
What we have seen of the precocious Vuong so far has been very encouraging. He has negotiated six fights against learner opposition with poise and no shortage of skill.
Michal Dufak had given work to the likes of Robbie Davies Jr and Campbell Hatton and Vuong was impressive when stopping him in four. A win over former Midlands Area champion Ishmael Ellis, former foe of Dalton Smith and Harlem Eubank, was a solid indication that his level lay higher up the card.
Vuong now gets a chance against a man with the full set of domestic and continental belts. ‘Merthyr Mexican’ Gwynne has held the British, Commonwealth and European belts. That triplicate of titles is usually a clear indication of a pursuit of world honours. But Gwynne’s best-laid plans were scuppered last time out, when Mark Chamberlain finished him in four rounds.
At the age of 34, Gwynne admitted he wasn’t sure he’d ever get the call for a big televised fight again. But his legacy is too good to ignore and while he is firmly being brought in as the B-side of this encounter, this is a fantastic opportunity.
On the Vuong side, this is a chance to get quality ring time with an opponent who has done many of the things you’re aiming to do. Vuong wants to move on and compete for major titles and Gwynne has held plenty of them. A statement win over the Welshman would surely line Vuong up for a title opportunity.
Gwynne will be acutely aware of his status as an unwilling patsy. This brick-tough fighting man will not go down quietly. It was only last year that he was the reigning European kingpin at this weight. He holds wins over the likes of Sean McComb, who thrived in the aftermath and even secured a fight with Arnold Barboza earlier this year, and Luke Willis.
The Chamberlain loss will obviously bring up question marks. Was it just one of those nights or an indication of decline? 34 isn’t ancient in modern boxing terms but it can still be considered a career twilight at the lower weights. Perhaps this fight is coming at exactly the right time for Vuong.
That is the beauty of fights like this. Both fighters need it for different reasons, but both are viciously determined to win and achieve their goals. This is a huge fight for both men and that should permeate into the action.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Vuong is heavily favoured at 2/11 while Gwynne is your 4/1 shot. The draw is priced up at 16/1.

Vuong vs Gwynne Predictions
I like Vuong in this one. I have been really impressed watching the rise of this young star. His poise in the ring and streak of subtle arrogance outside of it make for an interesting cocktail.
I think Gwynne will work him hard. His nickname does not invoke the warrior legacy of Latin boxing for nothing. This will undoubtedly be the hardest fight of Cameron Vuong’s career.
But he will win it. I think he does it inside the distance, too. Gwynne’s style is tough to beat but it could play into Vuong’s hands. I’m taking Vuong by stoppage at 11/4.
