Football Bet of the Day: Boro can’t stop scoring

We’ve got some more European action on the way tonight but it is from the Championship that our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, November 27 comes from. We are heading to the Riverside where Middlesbrough host Blackburn Rovers, looking to continue their imperious goalscoring form.

Below you can find my selection for the Football Bet of the Day, and my reasoning why.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, November 27

  • Middlesbrough to score over 3.5 goals @ 11/2

Middlesbrough have been on fire in front of goal of late. Since losing 3-0 at home to Coventry City, Michael Carrick’s men have scored four against QPR, five against Luton Town and six against Oxford United. Boro have always ranked well this season in terms of xG, but they simply haven’t been taking their chances.

Emmanuel Latte Lath and Tommy Conway, along with several of their other players, simply weren’t taking the chances that were being presented to them. The underlying data was always good, and I was convinced that they would turn things around and begin to charge towards the automatic places.

I’m now fully convinced that they will be a top-six team come May, and I love Carrick as a manager. But the reason I’m happy to back them to score four or more goals again on Wednesday night is because their strikers have finally caught fire. Latte Lath ended last term in terrific form and was many neutral’s selection to win the Golden Boot this year, but a slow start to 2024/25 saw him lose his place in the team to Conway.

Conway has provided excellent competition, and scored twice away at Norwich to truly make his mark. He has now scored four goals in his last five appearances, which seems to have kicked his fellow forward into action. Latte Lath has scored five in three, including a hat-trick last time out at Oxford as Boro scored six in a phenomenal showing.

Now Blackburn have experience at the back in the form of Danny Batth and Dom Hyam, and they are doing pretty well this season. Usually I wouldn’t be happy to back against them conceding so many goals but I believe Boro are that good going forward, that it doesn’t really matter who they come up against - especially at the Riverside.

Ben Doak has arguably been the star of the show for Boro this season, and although Carrick has carefully managed his minutes, he has to start every possible game if they are going to get promoted. Along with the magnificent Finn Azaz, Latte Lath and Delano Burgzorg, the quartet have proven themselves to be incredibly potent of late.

I backed Boro to score three at Oxford at the weekend and they delivered us a winner, so I’m going back to the well here and picking them out to bag more goals against Blackburn on Wednesday night.
