Nap of the day with owen mcmahon

On a quiet Tuesday, we go to Bangor for the Nap of the Day, as a chase debutant whose form was franked in a big way over the weekend is fancied to make a winning start in this new discipline.

  • 14:22 Bangor - Chancycourt @ 11/2

The form of Fergal O'Brien's CHANCYCOURT received a significant boost at Cheltenham on Friday via Nigel Twiston-Davies' Potters Charm.

The latter won a Class 2 novices' hurdle at Prestbury Park by 2¼ lengths, from a Gordon Elliott inmate who had the rest of the field trailing by over 12 lengths.

That's a relatively strong piece of form, with Potters Charm rating a nice prospect for the current campaign and beyond.

He beat the selection by over three lengths at Worcester around this time last month, off level weights, and credit to O'Brien's gelding for he made the eventual winner work for it.

The pair drew almost 30 lengths clear of their other eight rivals, with Potters Charm's class proving the difference over 2m4f.

I suspect the latter will earn an opening mark in the mid-late 120s, if not around the 130 mark, which makes Chancycourt looks very well-treated off a mark of 108.

None of his other bits of form suggests that, but this eight-year-old son of Court Cave has had an interrupted career to date and for me he's best judged on his most recent effort.

I'm also anticipating plenty of improvement now he tackles the bigger obstacles. He ran very well in a couple of PTPs back in 2021 and he looks a big, chasing type to my eye.

He faces what looks like modest opposition here on his chase debut and with fitness guaranteed, I make him a bet at 7/2 or greater - so the 11/2 currently available is Nap material in my book.
