Chelsea to beat Newcastle

Chelsea have lost two Premier League matches this season, but those defeats have come against title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool, meaning that for now a top-four place looks a more realistic target.

Newcastle are certainly rivals in the battle for a place in next season’s Champions League, but the Blues can show that they are a cut above the Magpies.

Enzo Maresca’s men impressed in defeat to Liverpool in their latest top-flight contest, enjoying more of the ball and more shots on goal than the Reds at Anfield.

Newcastle have been inconsistent at best this term and an EFL Cup victory over Wimbledon is the only win the Magpies have recorded in their last five matches.

Eddie Howe’s men were turned over by Brighton at St James’ Park last weekend and their only away league win was a narrow 2-1 victory at Wolves, so Howe’s side look set for more away day blues.

Over 2.5 goals

Chelsea have seen 44 goals scored in their last 11 matches and another high-scoring contest looks likely at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku all found the net in a 4-1 win at Panathinaikos on Thursday night and, while that trio may have to settle for places on the bench on Sunday, it’s a measure of Chelsea’s attacking depth that the Thursday night’s goalscorers may struggle to keep their place in the starting line-up.

Newcastle have kept only one away clean sheet this season and Howe may well feel that attack is the best form of defence in west London.

Backing over 2.5 goals looks like another good play in a bet builder punt.

Chelsea have played seven home matches this season and they have hit at least seven shots on target in five of those games.

The exceptions were in the opening game of the season against champions Man City and a Conference League tie against Gent.
