Saturday Racing Tips: Owen’s selections features 13/2 Futurity fancy

Away from Cheltenham, which I've already covered here, there's five meetings - from Newbury, Doncaster, Kelso, Galway and Chelmsford - across the UK & Ireland on Saturday.
The big race of the afternoon is the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster, which features in my Saturday racing tips.
Saturday Racing Tips - October 26, 2024
13:35 Kelso - Bold Light @ 3/1
Lucinda Russell saddles two in Kelso's opener - a two-mile maiden hurdle - on Saturday, and according to jockey bookings it's Tommys Law that's preferred.
He's rated four pounds higher than his stablemate, so I'm not surprised that Derek Fox has picked him, but I much prefer BOLD LIGHT.
Five-pound claimer Alan Doyle will be aboard the seven-year-old, who spent a whopping 1,076 days off the track before his rules debut in a maiden hurdle at Musselburgh back in April.
He finished second to a decent yardstick of Donald McCain's in Speed Davis that day, before a much-improved effort at Hexham the following month, finishing behind the low-weighted Lightning Flash (now rated 112) and Breizh River (135 over fences). Speed Davis was 12 lengths behind the selection this time.
For me, that's stronger form than anything Tommys Law or the other four with experience over jumps have achieved to date. Newcomers High Dancer and Society Soldier can't be ruled out, but Bold Light ought to make a bold bid.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
14:40 Doncaster - Anno Domini @ 13/2
The last big Flat race of the year on these shores is the Futurity Trophy - a Group 1 for two-year-olds over the straight mile at Doncaster - which has a stunning roll of honour.
Wimbledon Hawkeye and Delacroix have obvious claims to join that list, but a chance is taken on ANNO DOMINI for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.
Results on the level at this time of year can be unpredictable, often as the fresher horses rise to the top despite not necessarily having the form in the book to justify it. The selection could easily be one of them.
He won his first two starts, including a warm affair at Sandown in early July, beating Andrew Balding's Windlor, who bolted up on his next outing before a solid third to the 107-rated Hotazhell, who's 8s for Saturday's big race.
That suggests Anno Domini is a good bit ahead of his lowly rating (97) and Appleby's comments on Friday give reason to believe his New Bay colt has improved a serious amount during his 113-day break.
He said: "He deserved to have his break and he's done very well physically for it. His homework has been good and we're going there with a bit of confidence behind him."
He's well worth a go at the quoted price.

15:55 Kelso - La Renommee @ 4/1
We return to Kelso for my third and final selection - away from Cheltenham at least - on Saturday, which is LA RENOMMEE for Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole.
This six-year-old mare was my Nap of the Day at Ludlow earlier this month and she bolted up off a mark of 132. That followed a stylish success at Cheltenham back in April, suggesting this a mare well and truly on the up.
I do think a 10lb rise for that Ludlow victory is harsh, but she's race-fit and in the form of her life against rivals making their seasonal reappearance - some, namely Elvis Mail and Apple Away, appearing to hold no secrets from the handicapper.
It's not a confident selection by any means, but at 4/1 the daughter of Doctor Dino is worth a couple of quid.
