Burnley vs QPR Prediction: R’s to sink to another defeat

Burnley earned themselves a decent point away at Hull in midweek, while QPR ended their run of four straight defeats with a 1-1 home draw against fellow strugglers Coventry. Life isn’t about to get any easier for Marti Cifuentes as he takes his side up north to Turf Moor on Saturday, with the Clarets attempting to put the pressure on early leaders Sunderland.
This one kicks-off at 15:00 and below you can find my Burnley vs QPR prediction, featuring betting tips, team news and more.
Team News
Burnley are without Manuel Benson, Jordan Beyer, Hannes Delcroix and Hjalmar Ekdal, with Lyle Foster currently still sidelined with a knee issue he picked up on international duty. Mike Tresor has returned to training and will try and make it into the squad over the next few weeks and Scott Parker has praised Josh Laurent and Hannibal Mejbri in midfield.
“They’re different profiles. Hannibal’s been superb since coming in, and so has Josh. They both bring different dynamics in certain games,” he said ahead of this one, after the former Manchester United man Mejbri started in midweek. We tipped Zian Flemming to find the net against Hull, and he duly delivered so is in line to start here, with Jaidon Anthony and Luca Koleosho now mainstays in the wide positions.
At just 18, QPR midfielder Kieran Morgan became the youngest R’s player to score in the league since 2010, and he could be rewarded with a start at Turf Moor. Kenneth Paal went off injured against Coventry, but it actually worked out well as Koki Saito came off the bench and won man of the match.
I’d expect the Japanese to start as well with Paal out, while Zan Celar is likely to drop out of the XI in favour of Michael Frey, who had a slight calf strain and missed Tuesday’s match. Jonathan Varane and Jake Clarke-Salter both strengthened the starting XI in midweek, and Cifuentes will want to build on that point.
Burnley are priced at 4/6 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 60%, while QPR are available at 4/1. A draw can be backed at 3/1, over 2.5 goals is 1/1 and BTTS is the same price.
Burnley -1 @ 15/8
Having watched QPR’s performance in full on Tuesday night, I am seriously worried for them. They were woeful against Coventry, who are a poor side themselves and currently sit in the bottom three. Morgan deserves credit for his goal but it was QPR’s only shot on target in a second half of a game they were trailing, and Oliver Dovin certainly should have saved it in the Coventry goal.
I think they are in serious relegation danger this season and that point isn’t enough to convince me that they have turned a corner. They’ve got a dodgy defence, and I think it is something that Burnley have the ability to take advantage of on Saturday. I’m not convinced that Parker's troops will finish in the top two, but they are play-off contenders for sure, and with the likes of Koleosho, Fleming and Anthony, should be able to win this game by two goals.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Zian Flemming to score first @ 5/1
We backed him to find the net in midweek and he delivered, so let’s pick Flemming once again. This time I’m happy to push the boat out and back him to score first, given I think QPR will likely fail to trouble Burnley. Fleming has earned another start with his recent performances, and with two excellent wingers should be able to get on the end of a couple of chances.
QPR haven’t played a side at the level of Burnley in a while, and I think the contrast in the two teams will be stark on Saturday. Flemming can go on a goalscoring run now, and is keen to impress for his new club. 5/1 on him to score first feels like a great price.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
