Bolton vs Burton Prediction: Trotters can hammer beleaguered Brewers

Currently sitting 14th in the table, it’s not been the start to the season that many expected for Bolton Wanderers, but they have picked up of late, winning three of their last four games. Ian Evatt seems to have ridden the storm after coming under pressure at the start of the campaign, and now there are clear skies above heading into this weekend. 

Their next game comes at home to Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon (15:00), as Wanderers strive to climb the table and break into the play-off picture. Below you can find my Bolton vs Burton prediction featuring team news and betting tips. 

Team News

Bolton could be without Eoin Toal this weekend after he was taken to hospital following a clash of heads in Northern Ireland’s game with Bulgaria. He will have to pass concussion protocols before being given the green light to play, but Gethin Jones and Will Forrester could feature for the first time this season to replace him if he doesn’t make it. 

Evatt will have to watch this one from the stands after receiving a three-game touchline ban against Shrewsbury, while Carlos Mendes Gomes, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Chris Forino will also watch from the sidelines through injury. There's a worry that goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has a muscular issue, but he has not yet been officially ruled out by his manager.  

Terence Vancooten is suspended for Burton Albion having been sent off against Bristol Rovers. Geraldo Bajrami remains out with an ACL injury while Billy Bodin is trying to recover from a calf issue but could make Saturday’s squad.

Bolton are priced at 2/5 to win this game, with Burton available at 7/1. A draw can be backed at 18/5, over 2.5 goals is 8/15 and BTTS is 4/5. Dion Charles is the favourite to open the scoring at 7/2.

Bolton should win this game fairly comfortably. They are a class above their opponents and the Brewers are yet to win a game in the league this season, picking up just four points from their nine outings so far. That leaves them second-bottom of the table, while Bolton are on the up having won three of their last four in League 1. 

I’ve gone for a big home win based on the strength of Bolton’s attack, and the fact that Burton have conceded three goals in each of their last three games, taking their goals against total up to 19 already. The Trotters should have a field day up against this weak defence.

Dion Charles to score anytime @ 21/20

We might as well back Bolton’s main man to find the net here. Despite an array of attacking options including John McAtee, Aaron Collins and Victor Adeboyejo, Charles is still the main man at Bolton and should start here.

He’s already got five goals in nine games in the league this season and so the Golden Boot may be within reach if continues this good form. Evatt will put his trust in Charles once again, and against this horrific Burton defence, he should be able to find the net at anytime.
