Lucky 15 Tips: Billy The Kid to take novice shoot-out

A dramatic weekend of action fades from the rear-view mirror, but a quick mention for Arc-winning rider Rossa Ryan. Regular readers will know that I've championed the 24-year-old for a long time, from predominantly an emerging all-weather star to proverbially a man for all seasons, and occasions. He's brilliant, and rode a race in Paris full of maturity and ice-cold skill in one of the world's most prestigious equine events. Well played, Sir.
For Tuesday's Lucky 15 tips we're heading to a NINE-race card at Southwell, where another even younger prodigy in Billy Loughnane will be doing his thing. Looks like he's got around half a dozen booked mounts on the card and I'll be very surprised if I don't end up siding with the odd one. Here we go then for Tuesday, October 8. First late afternoon/evening Southwell contest kicks in at 16:20.
Lucky 15 Tips, Tuesday
Southwell
16:55 - Vibrato @ 11/8
PJ McDonald rides this ex-Gosden inmate for Staffordshire-based trainer Jennie Candlish.
Vibrato has had two novice spins for previous connections, in February and March, running highly respectably. The last of those was here, over a mile, beaten just half a length.
This three-year-old No Nay Never gelding now steps back to 5f (!), but when you think his famous sire won over 4.5f at Keeneland, as well as taking the Norfolk and the Prix Morny at sprint trips, perhaps it's not so bizarre.
And this is, if it's not too much of a paradox, a testing 5f. Southwell seems nowhere near as demanding as with the old fibresand surface where they'd finish like 3m chasers, but for me this particular Tapeta track is still a stiffer test than most all-weather options.
Could be a cut above, and after 194 days off we're about to know a whole lot more about him.
17:30 Jalaybee @ 11/2
The great Hollie Doyle rides for North Yorkshire handler Declan Carroll.
Jalaybee is a three-year-old Showcasing gelding previously with the great Dermot Weld in Ireland. Declan acquired the horse in August and three ordinary runs have followed, at around this 1m trip.
His mark has dropped 3lb since shipping in to the UK however, and the booking of Hollie is encouraging. These are very ordinary types and last time out a fortnight ago he was third, running on, at Beverley (beaten just over 4l).
This first stab on the sand could be just the ticket, and we all know of Hollie's prowess.
18:30 - Shah @ 11/8
Billy the Kid has the riding assignment for his frequent patron George Boughey.
This potent combo team up with two-year-old Sea The Stars colt Shah, who has had three seconds from his three starts to date. In very decent contests too, including a £50k maiden (the Convivial) at York's Ebor meeting.
The winner of that one ran third in the Group 2 Royal Lodge recently and Shah gets 6lb today from an otherwise dangerous-looking Sir Michael Stoute conveyance, Jonquil.
Looks a spectacular opportunity to me to record win number one, and trouser the £10k first prize too.
19:00 - Different Drum @ 6/4
In-form Sea The Moon gelding, looking to follow-up a win at Newcastle three weeks ago.
Different Drum looked to appreciate the step up to this extreme distance (just over 2m) when winning with authority last time out. Newmarket trainer Louise Allen has had the three-year-old since June, as the horse shipped in from the Charlton yard.
Last time represented a big change in fortunes and now the penny has dropped he could be worth following for a wee while. In-form Dylan Hogan again takes the mount (three winners in two days at the end of last month).
A tiddler of a race but little fish are just as sweet, and all that jazz.
If you're playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £149 for your total £7.50 stake.
