Augsburg vs Borussia Monchengladbach Prediction: Hosts tend to deliver goals in their games

Augsburg entertain Borussia Monchengladbach at the WWK Arena in the Bundesliga on Friday (19:30, Sky Sports Mix), looking to get back to winning ways after falling two defeat in their last two attempts.

Gladbach secured an important home victory against Union Berlin last time out. They will be hoping to build on this against an Augsburg side that continue to leak goals. Read on for my Augsburg vs Borussia Monchengladbach prediction, including match odds and team news.

Augsburg are 6/4, or a 40% chance, to win this contest. Borussia Monchengladbach are valued at 13/8 to take the three points, giving them an implied probability of 38.1%. The draw is marketed at 13/5 (27.8%).

Both teams to score is available at 4/9 and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 8/15.

Monchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst has scored twice in the Bundesliga so far this season, and he is priced at 13/8 to score anytime, or 6/1 to open proceedings.

Augsburg are missing their star forward Samuel Essende, who continues to serve his three-match ban for the red card he picked up in the defeat to Mainz on September 20.

Fellow attacker Ruben Vargas is out of action through injury and is not expected back until later this month, while defender Robert Gumny is sidelined until December with a cruciate ligament problem.

Mads Valentin Pedersen and Daniel Klein are hoped to be back in contention in the next couple of weeks. Kevin Schlotterbeck, Max Bauer and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw have been deployed as the hosts' three centre backs for the last three matches, so they are expected to line up for the fourth time in a row against Gladbach.

For Monchengladbach, they have a few injury absentees in Simon Walde, who is out until at least Novemeber, while Yvandro Borges Sanches is expected to return the following month. Nathan N'Goumou is hoped to be back towards the end of October, while goalkeeper Jonas Omlin is also out until November.

Jan Olschowsky and Franck Honorat will also miss this game and might need another week or two to be in contention to return to the squad.

Draw or Borussia Monchengladbach & BTTS @ 23/20

Monchengladbach were able to claim their second win of the season last time out, which will have given them a boost ahead of this clash. They are still not out of the woods yet because consistency has been a real issue, but at least they have given themselves a cushion from the bottom three.

They need to capitalise on this and start finding some form because as we know the Bundesliga can be unforgiving. They will know that Augsburg are very susceptible to conceding goals and they will believe they can profit from that on Friday night.

The hosts are looking to get back to winning ways, and they will also view the inconsistent Gladbach as a chance for them to get a big win at home to help steer themselves away from the bottom three.

With both sides missing several players due to injury, its hard to gauge how this match will pan out. Out of the two of them the visitors will head into this fixture with more confidence, albeit it won't be too much considering it was only a slender 1-0 victory.

However, that could end up being the difference here, but I'm not overly convinced they can string a second successive win. That's why I think draw or Borussia Monchengladbach could be the smart play, boosted by adding both teams to score. What goes in their favour is the fact that the hosts have lost nine of their last 11 in the Bundesliga, but its not like wins have been easy for Gladbach either, with just two from their previous 11.

I do think BTTS is worth adding, though because it has landed in three of Augsburg's last five clashes in the Bundesliga, while it has also been a winning selection in two of Gladbach's five league outings. The home side have conceded 14 goals already this term, and only Holstein Kiel (17) and Hoffenheim (15) have let in more.

They have also scored at least two goals in their last three league matches at the WWK Arena, and Gladbach themselves are vulnerable at the back.

Over 2.5 goals @ 8/15

With that in mind, I think over 2.5 goals is worth backing. It has been a winning bet in all five of Augsburg's Bundesliga fixtures in 2024/25, despite only landing in two of Gladbach's.

This game pitches two sides with vulnerable defences up against each other, and I think this can lead to a flurry of goals on Friday night. Although they have not been prolific, Gladbach have players who can have an impact in the final third. Top scorer Kleindienst is the one you look to straight away, but then you also have Alasanne Plea, Robin Hack and Rocco Reitz.

They will all be hoping to make their mark against one of the weakest back lines in the division. In the absence of Essende, Phillip Tietz has a lot of responsibility up top for Augsburg, but he will be looking forward to facing Gladbach because they are known for gifting goals to their opponents.
