Burnley vs Portsmouth Prediction: Clarets should show their class

Two divisions separated these two teams last season and the gulf in class could be evident in this Championship clash from Turf Moor.
Read on for my Burnley vs Portsmouth prediction, as well the latest team news and match odds.
While Burnley have made an imperious start in their bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, Portsmouth are finding things tougher upped in grade following last season’s League One-winning campaign.
The Clarets sent out a statement to their Championship title rivals with last weekend’s hard-fought 1-0 success at Leeds, which means they have taken ten points from their first five league fixtures.
Portsmouth, meanwhile, have failed to win any of their opening five games in the second tier and are reeling after back-to-back home losses against Sunderland and West Brom.
Team News
Burnley must prepare to be without on-loan Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys, who faces a one-match suspension after receiving two yellow cards in last Saturday's 1-0 win at Leeds.
Scott Parker’s side are also without Ameen Al Dakhil, Nathan Redmond and Aaron Ramsey while Mike Tresor, Hannes Delcroix, Hjalmar Ekdal and Jordan Beyer are all doubtful.
Portsmouth are without a trio of key forwards in Kusini Yengi, Mark O’Mahony and Colby Bishop while Jacob Farrell must be assessed before he can be considered to make his debut.
Burnley are 4/9 to maintain their strong start to the season at the expense of Portsmouth, who are 6/1 to claim their first win of the Championship campaign. The draw can be backed at 18/5.
Over 2.5 goals, which has landed in four of Portsmouth’s opening five matches, is 4/6 while it is 5/6 for both teams to get on the scoresheet.
Burnley’s Luca Koleosho scored the only goal of the game in last weekend’s win at Leeds and the tricky teenager is 6/1 to grab the first goal against Portsmouth.
Burnley -1 goal on handicap @ 13/10
Burnley raced out the blocks, winning 4-1 at Luton and 5-0 at home to Cardiff, before suffering setbacks against Sunderland and Lancashire rivals Blackburn.
However, Parker’s troops are firmly back on track after last weekend’s impressive win at Leeds and they should be able to follow up with a convincing victory over Portsmouth, who have failed to win any of their opening five games in the Championship.
The biggest concern for any Portsmouth supporters making the long trip to Turf Moor would be the rate at which they are conceding goals.
Pompey have already been breached 11 times across their opening five matches and they have been comfortably beaten in their last two matches at home to Sunderland and West Brom, both of whom netted three.
That suggests that Burnley, who hold title ambitions, should be able to strengthen their early position and prove at least two goals too good for their leaky visitors.

Over 2.5 Burnley goals @ 7/4
With Burnley expected to run out emphatic winners, backing them to score three or more could be a shrewd play.
The Clarets have done that twice already this season, netting four at Luton and five at home to Cardiff, and they will be feeling pretty confident about matters after claiming the recent scalp of title favourites Leeds.
Portsmouth have conceded three times in three of their five league games and if they leave themselves open then Burnley will be expected to take full advantage with their array of attacking stars.
