Lucky 15 Tips: Brighton Boy to return to form at York

There are two race meetings down for decision in Britain on Sunday, with cards at York and Fontwell. I've picked out a Lucky 15 offering from four races at York on Sunday for its Premier Racing fixture.

Today's Horse Races

13:40 York - Shah @ 5/6

The Convivial Maiden is the richest race in Britain of its kind and went the way of the highly regarded Angelo Buonarroti a fortnight ago. In second was Shah, who gets the vote to go one place better in this mile novice.

The son of Sea The Stars should benefit from the step up to a mile after two power-packed finishes over 7f behind top prospects to kick off his career.

Angelo Buonarroti was purchased for big cash and had previously run a solid race in the Coventry, so the Convivial form is more than respectable, while Shah bumped into another smart sort at Leicester in Matauri Bay on his debut.

That horse has since finished second in the Solario and Shah surely faces nothing of that calibre here. He can justify an entry in the Royal Lodge later this month.

14:15 York - Harvanna @ 10/1

Harvanna might have finished only ninth here in the 5f sprint at York’s Ebor meeting but is afforded another chance in this 5f handicap.

The Havana Grey filly was drawn in stall 12 that day and low numbers were at a serious advantage, while the winner of that race, Star Of Lady M, recorded a track record time.

We know Harvanna likes it on the Knavesmire as she landed her maiden over course and distance, while her fifth in a big field here in May from stall nine was a fair effort given three of the first four were berthed in the first three stalls.

Harvanna is in stall two this time and surely won’t have any excuses from there.

Horse Racing Odds

14:50 York - Brighton Boy @ 2/1

York is a happy hunting ground for Andrew Balding and the good times can continue with Brighton Boy in the 6f nursery.

It is worth paying attention to when horses are strong in the market before a race and the betting spoke favourably for this juvenile ahead of his handicap debut at Goodwood. However, he endured a wide trip that day and didn’t seem to be perfectly at home upped to 7f.

Brighton Boy returns to the trip over which he was so impressive when landing his novice at Chester and this looks like a nice opportunity for a return to form under Oisin Murphy.

16:00 York - Azure Blue @ 7/1

We can expect Quinault to set the pace from stall two in the Garrowby Stakes and, from one box lower, Azure Blue should get this run to suit. Expect her to pounce late in the picture.

Azure Blue was caught out for speed on her previous run in the Nunthorpe, but that was clearly a much better race than this, and 6f is her optimum trip in any case.

Michael Dods has a superb record in this contest as he seeks a fourth victory since 2019 and Azure Blue has no fears about the track as her lifetime best Racing Post Rating came in the 2023 Duke of York Stakes here. We shouldn’t give up on this mare.
