Lucky 15 tips with alan firkins

Greetings, dear reader. I've been relaxing, recharging, and watching some sublime sport over the past couple of weeks. Being up close with City Of Troy on the Knavesmire was probably the highlight, but the Premier League has also been something of a rocket ship, too. Sensational.

Great to be back then, and for my first Lucky 15 of the week let's take in the delights of a seven-race afternoon card at Goodwood (from 13:45). Top bananas like Oisin Murphy, Will Buick, Tom Marquand and Rossa Ryan are there with chances, and competitive racing is guaranteed.

Lucky 15 tips Tuesday

Goodwood

  • 13:45 - Mighty Boy @ 9/2
  • 14:20 - Night On Earth @ 11/4
  • 14:55 - Samra Star @ 11/2
  • 15:30 - Where's Clare @ 15/8

Today's Horse Races

13:45 - Mighty Boy @ 9/2

The opener is a decent-looking one-mile, two-year-old maiden for a fair first prize of £15k.

Our selection Mighty Boy has run just once - a richly-endowed conditions contest at Deauville 19 days ago. Brian Meehan's Zarak colt finished a creditable second of 11, and jockey Sean Levey renews the partnership this afternoon.

He holds a G2 Royal Lodge entry, and the yard did have a winner at Ripon the other day - ridden by Sean. There will be plenty of nice types to look at with a view to the future, from some exalted stables.

14:20 - Night On Earth @ 11/4

In-form six-year-old Kodiac sprint gelding, trained by Ian Williams.

Night On Earth was in career-high territory last time at Catterick just six days ago, and reappears swiftly with a 5lb penalty. Claimer Joe Leavy offsets the hike in theory but as he was on board last time too it's not quite that straightforward.

However, such was the manner of the win this could well be a blast out and make all under the stands' rail job - fingers crossed.

14:55 - Samra Star @ 11/2

A Richard Hughes-trained three-year-old filly now, in a 10f Class 4 novice stakes race.

Samra Star has had just two starts - progressive efforts at Wolves on the sand, culminating in a cosy win 18 days ago. That was over just half a furlong shorter than this, so the trip for this daughter of Magna Grecia should be no problem on that evidence, although her G1-winning sire never raced a yard over a mile.

Will Buick is booked to ride, which I view very much as a positive.

15:30 - Where's Clare @ 15/8

Tough, experienced Johnston-trained two-year-old racing in the colours of the Rooneys - hence the name!

A fortnight ago the Mehmas filly made all over this 6f trip at Nottingham, readily putting four lengths between herself and all would-be pursuers. That experience (six runs to date, two wins) can be put to good use at a track Where's Clare has seen before when highly-tried at the Glorious meeting in a £39k-to-the-winner conditions contest (beaten just over 5l).

This will surely be much more up her street, and the brilliant Oisin Murphy takes the mount.

If you're playing good luck, take care, and above all have fun.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today's selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £460 for your total £7.50 stake.
