It's so good to have domestic football back and this weekend sees the new Premier League season get underway. This will lead to many accumulators being put on across the country.

The most common ones are for match results, both teams to score and goal thresholds such as over 2.5, but I'm here to present my selections for goalscorers across the weekend's action, that might be worth putting into an accumulator. Below you will find my anytime goalscorer tips for Saturday, August 17.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips - Saturday, August 17

  • Kai Havertz (Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers)
  • Alexander Isak (Newcastle United vs Southampton)
  • Emmanuel Latte Lath (Derby County vs Middlesbrough)
  • Sammie Szmodics (Norwich City vs Blackburn Rovers)

Kai Havertz (Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Kai Havertz really enjoyed his football at Arsenal last year as the German international started to show glimpses of the player he was expected to be at Chelsea. Mikel Arteta decided to use him as a false nine and reaped the rewards as Havertz netted 13 goals and seven assists in the Premier League.

He will very much want to show this term that he wasn't a one season wonder, and will want to surpass last year's figures. The Gunners are up against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home for their season opener, and this is expected to be a routine victory for the title challengers, who won this fixture 2-1 last year.

After his performances in that campaign, Havertz has likely cemented his place in the front three for this match, and with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trosssard, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard around him, he shouldn't be short of chances. And I am confident that he can put one away and get off to a flying start in 2024/25.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle United vs Southampton)

After netting 21 league goals last year, Newcastle United's talisman Alexander Isak will be raring to go again in the Premier League. The Sweden international has established himself as one of the best forward players in the division, having both the attributes of a goalscorer and a winger with his neat footwork.

Assists are one thing in which his game can improve on but we're not here for that. It's his goals that are what make him a star and with Newcastle aiming to fight their way back into Champions League this year, they will be of great importance.

He and his side start the campaign on home soil at St James' Park against newly-promoted Southampton, and it was their home games last term in which we tended to see the Magpies at their best.

Isak will be itching to open his account and a home match always provides the best chance to get off the mark, so I am backing him to find the back of the net here.

Emmanuel Latte Lath (Derby County vs Middlesbrough)

Middlesbrough forward Emmanuel Latte Lath is already up and running in the Championship this season, having netted in their opening victory against Swansea City last weekend. He has started this season exactly how he ended the last, in great form, and he will be relishing coming up against a Derby County side this weekend that has already conceded four goals.

The Rams were defensively frail against fellow relegation candidates Blackburn Rovers last week, and they made it look too easy for John Eustace's side at times. Michael Carrick and Latte Lath will be hoping this will be the case for them when they head to Pride Park on Saturday.

The supporters are already on the back of boss Paul Warne about his tactics, and another heavy defeat will only intensify the pressure. Latte Lath netted 16 goals last term and he is perceived as one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot this year, and against this vulnerable back line, I think he can score his second of the season.

Sammie Szmodics (Norwich City vs Blackburn Rovers)

Following his stunning 27-goal haul in the Championship last season to earn the Golden Boot, Blackburn Rovers fans must be quite surprised to see their star man still at Ewood Park amidst Premier League interest.

Things can still change in the final weeks of the transfer window but right now he remains a Rovers player and committed to the cause. He started their league opening victory over Derby on the bench but still came on to score and assist in the 4-2 win. Szmodics then followed this up with a brace against Stockport County in the Carabao Cup.

He has picked up where he left off and I think there is another goal waiting for him when he travels to Norwich City this weekend. The Canaries lost 2-0 to newly-promoted Oxford United last weekend, and they are about to face a side that have scored 10 goals in two matches in all competitions. I think Szmodics could feast again.
