It has been a hectic week on the racing front and we have a much quieter Sunday, with just the three meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland.

The Galway Festival concludes in Ireland, while a premier meeting from Haydock and a competitive card at Chester, which features a Listed race, are set to provide the action in Britain.

We’ve taken a good look at Sunday’s racing and have picked out our three strongest fancies on the day. These include a runner for Jennie Candlish with a 100 per cent record at Chester and a very favourable draw. Below you can find Sunday's Racing Tips.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, August 4

  • 4.35 Chester - Spirit Genie @ SP
  • 5.15 Haydock - Mereside Diva @ 4/1
  • 6.15 Haydock - Jer Batt @ 15/2

4.35 Chester - Spirit Genie @ SP

Chester is an infamously tight track which imposes very specific demands on a horse so previous track form can be a big advantage. Jennie Candlish runs SPIRIT GENIE here and the four-year-old will be attempting to defend a 100 per cent record over C&D, having won his sole start there earlier on in the season.

Another key factor is the draw as you can pretty much rule out anything with a high one. The son of Invincible Spirit should have no problem coming from stall two and it should prove to be a massive advantage.

His aforementioned course victory came over this very trip and he showed a game attitude to hold off the sustained challenge of the runner-up, Way To Dubai. Slightly below-par at Newmarket next time, he’s been dropped 1lb since and a return to form shouldn’t be ruled out.

5.15 Haydock - Mereside Diva @ 4/1

This race is shaping up to be a warm affair and it’s easy to make a case for several candidates here. However, David & Nicola Barron’s MERESIDE DIVA stands out, as the four-year-old has been particularly progressive so far this season.

In fact, her record in general is very consistent, with five wins and three seconds to her name in just 13 career starts. She got off the mark for the season with a cracking performance over course and distance in May and was a game winner once again at Thirsk when last seen.

A 5lb rise seems about fair for that success and it would be no surprise if she has a little bit more improvement up her sleeve. Callum Rodriguez has been on board for both of her wins this year and it’s definitely a positive that the partnership is maintained here.

Stake back up to £10 if your horse finishes second in the 5.15 at Haydock

6.15 Haydock - Jer Batt @ 15/2

Another one for David & Nicola Barron, JER BATT could be one to watch at Haydock. His two runs so far this season have been pretty reasonable and he has managed to slide down the weights whilst still running well.

The son of Dragon Pulse was third behind American Affair, who is in opposition once again here, at Thirsk last time out. There’s a pretty significant weight swing of 9lb to consider and that could be enough to reverse a two-and-a-quarter-length deficit.

His last success came by a wide margin at Musselburgh in April 2023 off a 7lb lower mark and if he can produce a similar effort here, he should be making the frame at the very least.

Callum Rodriguez is the man on board once again and as of writing, his strike-rate (36%) in the last fortnight is very healthy indeed.
