Horse Racing Tips: Time for Tinker to find the winner’s enclosure again

Stratford races scaled

There's plenty of action to cater for all tastes across Britain and Ireland on Sunday, with four afternoon meetings taking place. First off is the Curragh before they go to Redcar, Stratford and Newton Abbot.

Amongst my horse racing tips for Sunday is one for trainer Gary Hammer, who targets this particular race, winning it twice in the last three years and he has a horse running from a favourable mark again this year.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, July 21

  • 14:25 Stratford - Time To Tinker @ 22/1
  • 14:52 Redcar - Borderline Boss @ 3/1
  • 16:10 Newton Abbot - Melton Mossy @ 11/4

Today's Horse Races

14:25 Stratford - Time To Tinker @ 22/1

The 3m2f handicap hurdle is a fairly low-grade affair made up of horses who are in the main bang out of form, but if trainer Gary Hanmer has TIME TO TINKER back to anywhere close to his best, he could be the best bet.

The nine-year-old comes with risks attached, however. Winless since November 2021 when winning a 2m4f handicap hurdle off a mark of 128, he has been pulled up seven times since but is at least now down to a workable mark of 100.

Time To Tinker ran his best race in some time when a moderate fifth in a better race than this at Bangor last month and, if he can build on that now down in grade off a lower mark, he should be able to figure in a winnable race.

14:52 Redcar - Borderline Boss @ 3/1

Seventh behind subsequent French Group 3 winner and Epsom Oaks participant Making Dreams on debut, it will be a surprise if Kevin Ryan's BORDERLINE BOSS can't defy a mark of 65 now with four runs under his belt.

The son of Harry Angel had another stiff task on his second start at Thirsk when well behind Roger Varian's Boiling Point, before running a decent race in third at odds of 50/1 in a Catterick novice in testing conditions.

On handicap debut the market really spoke in Borderline Boss' favour as he was backed in to 9/4 favourite at Doncaster when dropped to 6f.

He got going all too late and was beaten half a length, but he can win when upped to 7f again off the same mark.

16:10 Newton Abbot - Melton Mossy @ 11/4

Our final selection of the day comes over the jumps at Newton Abbot, as MELTON MOSSY bids to bounce back from a below-par effort over course and distance a couple of weeks ago.

This boy has been a different proposition since having a wind operation, leaving four poor runs behind when winning at Ffos Las off a mark of 80 on his handicap debut in May when trained by Laura Horsfall.

He then moved to Evan Williams and doubled up at Worcester in a tougher race when sent off as favourite.

Surprisingly, he has dropped 6lb for his latest effort and Isabel Williams takes off a further 3lb, so he is weighted to get his head back in front.

Stake back as a free bet up to £10, if your horse finishes 2nd.
