What is Lucky 15 Betting in Horse Racing?

There’s plenty of ways to bet on horse racing, and one of the more popular multiple bets is the Lucky 15. But what is it, and how can you get the most out of your insight into the sport? Well, we’ve put together this short but helpful guide to help explain the Lucky 15 bet. Below we answer the question - What is Lucky 15 Betting in Horse Racing?
What is Lucky 15 Betting in Horse Racing?
So, what is a Lucky 15? Well, it’s a bet which involves four selections in total. Those four selections form 15 individual bets consisting of four singles, six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold accumulator. It means if you feel strongly about four horses, you can try and make some profit, by backing them over a number of different selections.
If you put £1 on each one of these 15 bets, the stake will be £15, so you can see where the name Lucky 15 comes from. Clearly the ideal outcome is that all four horses win, which will see you walk away with big returns. However, this bet is still popular because even if one or two horses let you down, you can still make profit depending on the odds.
For example if you have backed four horses - A, B, C and D - in your Lucky 15, then you can still win even if A doesn’t win. If B, C and D are all winners, then you will land three singles, three doubles and one treble. I’ve tried to give you a visual representation of how that works below, which should make it slightly easier to understand.

You can work out from this chart how successful you can be by backing a lucky 15. Clearly the outlay is much higher than simply backing one fourfold, but you have a lot of insurance covering plenty of other bets that could result in a net positive. However, if all four of your horses fail to win then of course, you won’t be winning any money from a Lucky 15.
Betfred also offers a bonus for multiple backers with the Multiply Your Odds offer. Betfred delivers you a massive consolation prize if you have just one winner, when backing a Lucky 15. You can get 3x the odds on one winner on Lucky 15s which means that if you place a Lucky 15 fourfold and only one of your horses comes in, Betfred will treble the odds. For example, a 4/1 winner will be settled at 12/1!
